Abstract

A cathode block for an aluminum electrolytic cell comprises a primary layer and a cover layer arranged thereon, the primary layer containing graphite and the cover layer being composed of a graphite composite material which contains 1 to less than 50% by weight of a hard material having a melting point of at least 1.000°C.
