Abstract

The invention relates to an endoscopic device for supporting the direction motion of an endoscope through a body cavity. According to the invention, a cylindrical apparatus (3) that has an inner cavity (4), an outer lateral surface (8), and two bases (9, 10) is arranged at the proximal end (1) of a main endoscope body (2). The outer lateral surface (8) can be enlarged at least in some sections by filling the inner cavity (4) of the cylindrical apparatus (3) with a pressurized fluid medium, in that the outer lateral surface expands so as to enlarge the circumference of the outer lateral surface, namely in such a way that the outer circumference of the outer lateral surface can become greater than the inner circumference of the body cavity into which the main endoscope body (2) is to be inserted. The cylindrical apparatus (3) also comprises means in the form of invaginations (14, 15) in the bases (9, 10) of the cylindrical apparatus (3), which cause the outer lateral surface (8) of the cylindrical apparatus (3) having an enlarged circumference to move back and forth periodically in the longitudinal direction of the main endoscope body (2) when the inner cavity (4) of the cylindrical apparatus (3) is periodically filled with the pressurized fluid medium and drained. The cylindrical apparatus (3) is operatively connected to a pressure generating apparatus for periodically filling the inner cavity (4) of the cylindrical apparatus (3) with a pressurized fluid medium and draining the inner cavity (4) of the cylindrical apparatus (3) during a period between 100 ms and 2 s.
