De manière classique en soi, l'ouvrant de véhicule comporte un panneau interne, appelé caisson, lequel est agencé avec un panneau externe pour constituer un panneau d'ouvrant. Une serrure d'ouvrant est fixée à l'intérieur du panneau interne au moyen d'une platine (ou plaque de serrure) . La serrure comporte un pêne destiné à coopérer avec un fil de gâche fixé à la structure de caisse du véhicule.
