Abstract
Description
本発明の体CNT集合体の貯蔵弾性率:G’は、必要に応じて種々の範囲をとることができる。例えば、本発明の体CNT集合体の、25℃、周波数1Hzでの剪断モードでの動的粘弾性測定により計測した、貯蔵弾性率:G’は、104以上109Pa以下の間の値としうる。体CNT集合体の貯蔵弾性率:G’は好ましくは、5×104以上5×108Pa以下、より好ましくは105以上108Pa以下、さらに好ましくは2×105以上5×107Pa以下である。このような貯蔵弾性率を有するCNT集合体は、いわばゴムやエラストマーと同等の硬さを有し、粘弾性体として使用するのに好適である。
本発明のCNT集合体は、高温においても、ゴム自体やエラストマー自体が有している特性と同様な特性を有し、優れた粘弾性を示す。すなわち、本発明によるCNT集合体は、25℃より高いある温度において、剪断モードでの動的粘弾性測定により計測した、ある温度での貯蔵弾性率:Gx℃’と、25℃での貯蔵弾性率:G25℃’との比が、0.75以上1.5以下、好ましくは0.8以上1.2以下、さらに好ましくは0.85以上1.1以下の範囲内の値となる。ここで、ある温度は、100℃以上1000℃以下、より好ましくは、150℃以上800℃以下、さらに好ましくは200℃以上600℃以下、さらに好ましくは200℃以上500℃以下の温度範囲内に存在する。このような貯蔵弾性率を高温で有するCNT集合体は、室温でのゴムやエラストマーと同等の硬さを高温で有し、高温で粘弾性体として使用するのに好適である。以上を図3にまとめる。図3は本発明に係るCNT集合体のある温度での貯蔵弾性率:Gx℃’と、25℃での貯蔵弾性率:G25℃’との比の好ましい範囲を示す図である。図3において、本発明に係るCNT集合体の好ましい範囲を矩形で示した。
本発明のCNT集合体は、室温より低温において、ゴム自体やエラストマー自体が有している特性と同様な特性を有し、優れた粘弾性を示す。すなわち、本発明によるCNT集合体は、25℃より低いある温度において、剪断モードでの動的粘弾性測定により計測した、ある温度での貯蔵弾性率:Gx℃’と、25℃での貯蔵弾性率:G25℃’との比が、0.75以上2以下、好ましくは0.8以上1.5以下の範囲内の値となる。ここで、ある温度は-274℃以上-25℃以下、より好ましくは、-200℃以上-25℃以下、さらに好ましくは-150℃以上-50℃以下の温度範囲内に存在する。このような貯蔵弾性率を低温で有するCNT集合体は、室温でのゴムやエラストマーと同等の硬さを低温で有し、低温で粘弾性体として使用するのに好適である。以上を図9にまとめる。図9は本発明に係るCNT集合体のある温度での貯蔵弾性率:Gx℃’と、25℃での貯蔵弾性率:G25℃’との比の好ましい範囲を示す図である。図9において、本発明に係るCNT集合体の好ましい範囲を矩形で示した。
本発明によるCNT集合体の室温、及びまたは、高温、及びまたは、低温での粘弾性特性は動的粘弾性測定の周波数に対して、極めて安定している。すなわち、本発明のCNT集合体の、ある温度、ある周波数範囲において得られる、剪断モードでの動的粘弾性測定により計測した、貯蔵弾性率:GxHz’と、1Hzでの貯蔵弾性率:G1Hz’との比が、0.3以上3以下、好ましくは0.5以上2.5以下、さらに好ましくは0.75以上1.5以下の範囲内の値となる。ここで、ある周波数範囲は0.5Hz以上5Hz以下、より好ましくは0.2Hz以上10Hz以下、さらに好ましくは0.1Hz以上25Hz以下、さらに好ましくは、0.1Hz以上50Hz以下である。また、ある温度は、-140℃以上から、600℃の温度範囲内の任意の温度となる。以上を図15にまとめる。図15は本発明に係るCNT集合体のある温度、ある周波数範囲での貯蔵弾性率:GxHz’と、1Hzでの貯蔵弾性率:G1Hz’との比の好ましい範囲を示す図である。図15において、本発明に係るCNT集合体の好ましい範囲を矩形で示した。
上式を少なくとも異なる10の距離から計算し、もっとも値の大きな2値と、もっとも小さな値の2値を除いた、少なくとも6の距離からの計算値の平均値をSEM画像のヘルマンの配向係数とする。このような計算を少なくとも異なる観察箇所でとった、5枚以上のSEM画像でおこない、平均値をCNT集合体のヘルマンの配向係数と規定する。但し、Fはヘルマンの配向係数、φはφ=0を参照(基準)方位とした方位角(azimuthal angle)であり、I(φ)は回折強度関数である。ヘルマンの配向係数においては、φ=0方向について完全配向ならばF=1となり、無配向ならばF=0となる。
本発明のCNT集合体が優れた粘弾性を有するメカニズムは、現時点では確定していないが、以下のように推察している。図24(a)は、本発明の本実施形態に係るCNT集合体100のTEM画像であり、差し込み図に選択された部分は接触域35を示す。図24(a)からもわかるように、CNT集合体100のCNT30は、接触域35を有する。図24(b)は、接触域35の開閉を通じたエネルギー散逸過程を示す模式図である。
上述したように、本発明に係るCNT集合体100を製造するためには、長く曲がりくねった、配向性の少なく、無数の接触域を有するCNTを成長させる必要があるため、高配向性のCNTの製造工程は用いることができない。
本発明の本実施に係るCNT集合体は、酸化層(600nm)を有する1センチ角のシリコン基板を用い、基板10の上部表面に、アルミナ(Al2O3)からなる厚さ30nmの助触媒層を高周波スパッタリング(RFスパッタリング)法により形成した。次に、アルミナ層上に鉄(Fe)からなる厚さ2nmの触媒層をRFスパッタリングによって形成した。
上述の製造工程により、本発明に係る本実施例のCNT集合体100を製造した。製造されたCNT集合体100を横方向(厚み方向)から日立S-4800を用いて撮影したSEM画像を図19に示す。SEM画像はCNT集合体100の実質的に無配向であるか、低い配向性しか有さないことを示し、かつ、CNTは高密度に相互接続していることを示す。図24(a)に示すように、CNT集合体100において、平行に接触するCNTから成る、接触域35を高密度で有する。図26(a)にCNT集合体100のJEOL JEM-2000FXで撮影したTEM画像を示し、図26(b)にCNTの直径の分布のヒストグラムをSWCNT、DWCNT及びTWCNT(三層CNT)で示し、図26(c)に平均直径とCNTのタイプとの相対的な数を示す。
粘弾性特性はTAインスツルメンツのねじれ方式動的粘弾性測定装置、AR-2000ex及びARES-G2を用いて、測定した。断りがない限り、測定の温度は室温の25℃である。CNT30の試料は、滑り止めのギザギザの表面の2枚のステンレス鋼平行板の間に固定した。ステンレス鋼は高温試験に耐性であるため選択し、試験中、熱膨張は補正した。循環試験は正弦関数の応力/歪みパターンを用いた振幅モードで実施した。DMAには150℃から600℃の温度で試験可能な加熱冷却装置を用意した。
図36は歪みの関数として貯蔵弾性率と応力を示す。図36のγcで示すように、臨界歪みは応力と歪みとの関係が非線形になる点で定義する。定義により、破損歪みは一定状態(線形の応力-歪み領域)の貯蔵弾性率の傾きの交点であり、大きな歪みでは貯蔵弾性率の最終領域である。CNT集合体100の破壊歪みは、100%以下と推定され、シリコンゴム(200%以下)より低い。
図37は、大きな歪み振幅での循環試験と構造観察を示す。図37(a)は20%歪みでのCNT集合体100の粘弾性特性を示し、図37(b)は20%歪みでの異なるサイクルでのCNT集合体100の応力-歪み曲線を示す。また、表13は、その代表的な試験サイクルにおける貯蔵弾性率、損失弾性率及び損失正接を示す。1000サイクル後の貯蔵弾性率、損失弾性率及び損失正接は、1サイクル目に比して10%以内の変化にとどまっていた。
また、-140℃以上600℃以下の温度範囲におけるCNT集合体100の疲労耐性について検討した。図24は1%歪み、100Hz、106サイクルの繰り返し試験の結果を示し、図39(a)は-140℃、図39(b)は25℃、図39(c)は600℃での結果をそれぞれ示す。また、図39(d)は-140℃、図39(e)は25℃、図39(f)は600℃での、102サイクル目、104サイクル目及び106サイクル目の疲労耐性試験の応力-歪み曲線をそれぞれ示す。表15~17はその代表的な試験サイクルにおける貯蔵弾性率、損失弾性率及び損失正接を示す。
次に、接触域の開閉によるエネルギー散逸モデルの妥当性について言及するために、損失弾性率を推定した。歪み方向に垂直に配向した画分を説明するために、接触域の損失弾性率(G”)は、全体の接触域の総和に、開くための接触域当たりのエネルギーを掛け、形態係数、<cosθ>を掛けて概算した。
上述したように、図41は構造体のTEM観察から接触域を測定した。図41(a)は白でマークした接触域を示すCNT集合体100のTEM画像である。図41(b)は接触域と歪の配向関係を示す模式図である。図41(c)は成長した状態のCNTアセンブリの写真である。図41(d)は個々のCNT構造の模式図である。

損失弾性率を求めるために、まず損失弾性率を定義する。損失弾性率は、総散逸エネルギーが同一な接触域の和であるととらえ、角度のある要素が分離可能であると概算することで、以下の損失弾性率の概算(式(1))に到達できる。したがって、この式は3つの要素からなる。前因子は、歪み振幅γ、歪み率γ(・)及び角振動数ω(損失弾性率が一定であると認められる実験条件から得た(図29(b)))のような実験条件を示す。2つの部分の積分は、エネルギー散逸に関わる各方向の接触域を仮定する開く過程からのCNT集合体100の総エネルギー損失を示す。歪み方向に垂直に配向した接触域だけがエネルギー散逸に関与するので、単純な形態係数<cosθ>が歪み方向に垂直な平均的な配向を説明するために導入される。

(3)該CNT集合体は、周波数1Hzの剪断モードで動的粘弾性測定により得られる25℃での損失正接(tanδ(=G25℃”/G25℃’))が10-3以上1以下であり、かつ、
