Abstract

The present invention relates to an LED lighting apparatus, and to a surface emitting method for the LED lighting apparatus. The LED lighting apparatus of the present invention comprises: LEDs arranged on a substrate; a light guide plate having a bottom surface with grooves for accommodating the LEDs; an upper groove formed at a portion of the light guide plate; and a surface emission assisting member arranged in the upper groove to transmit a portion of the light emitted by the LEDs upward and to diffuse the transmitted light, and to reflect the rest of the light to the substrate. In addition, the surface emitting method for the LED lighting apparatus according to the present invention comprises the steps of: reflecting a portion of light emitted by the LEDs to the lower surface of the light guide plate, and transmitting an amount of light smaller than that of the reflected light; and diffusing the transmitted light over the LEDs to compensate for the difference in the illumination above the LEDs and in the illumination at the periphery of the LEDs caused by the reflection of light emitted by the LEDs. The thus-configured apparatus of the present invention transmits a portion of the light emitted by the LEDs to the center of reflection means for reflecting light emitted by the LEDs, and diffuses a portion of the transmitted light above the LEDs, to thereby achieve a surface emission with a uniform illumination intensity.
