Abstract

The invention relates to pigment compositions containing UV absorbers and inorganic polyacids. The UV absorbers can be cationic UV absorbers, for example, salicylic acid derivatives, cinnamic acid derivatives, benzotriazole derivatives, benzophenone derivatives, naphthalimide derivatives, phenyltriazines, benzylidene camphor derivatives. The cationic UV absorbers often contain quaternized nitrogen atoms, imidazolium groups, pyridinium groups, or sulfonium groups. The invention further relates to a method for producing pigment compositions, comprising providing a solution of one or more cationic absorbers, providing a solution of one or more inorganic polyacids or salts of polyacids, mixing the solutions, and precipitating the pigment composition. The invention further relates to uses of pigment compositions as light stabilizers. The invention further relates to cationic UV absorbers of the formula (I), wherein X- is a halide, CH3SO3-, CH3OSO3-, C2H5OSO3-, p-CH3-C6H4OSO3-, CN-, SCN-, R11 is H, halogen, C1-C20 alkyl, perfluoro-C1-C20 alkyl, R12 is C1-C20 alkyl, R13 is C1-C20 alkyl, R14 is C1-C20 alkyl, and R15 is C1-C20 alkyl, C2-C6-alkylene-N+(CH3)3X-, or R13 and R14 can jointly form a C4-C7 alkylene group that can optionally be interrupted by a heteroatom, and wherein the C1-C20 alkyl groups of the substituents R11, R12, R13, R14, and/or R15 can optionally be interrupted by one or more O atoms.
