Abstract

The invention relates to a method for recapturing metals or metal alloys from scrap materials comprising materials having higher melting points, by heating the scrap material above the melting point of the metal to be recaptured or the alloy thereof, and separating the melt formed from the materials having higher melting points. The method is characterized by (a) a first stage of preheating the scrap material to a temperature below the melting point of the metal or alloy thereof to be recaptured, and (b) a second stage of rapidly heating the scrap material above the indicated melting point and discharge of the melt formed while leaving behind the non-liquefied materials having higher melting points. The method has the advantage that the melt does not dissolve the higher melting materials, due to the only brief contact therewith, and is therefore not contaminated thereby.
