Abstract

In searching for earthworms, particularly for bait for fishing, in addition to shovels and spades, devices are used that feed electrical current by means of metal rods stuck into the soil and thereby cause worms to crawl forward. Other devices are suitable only for collecting worms in peat or similar slippery soils, in that they force the worms out of the substrate by means of stamping motions. Still other devices generate vibrations transferred into the soil, for example by means of an electrically actuated striking pin by means of a mechanically struck vibrating rod surrounded by a sleeve tube. The invention relates to a device causing earthworms to crawl to the surface of even overgrown soil, without disadvantageously affecting the soil structure. To this end, cams mounted eccentrically on a rotating camshaft move a strike plate, which can also be located within a hollow segment of the ground rod, alternately up and down. The vibrations generated thereby are transmitted into the soil by means of the ground rod and cause the worms to crawl to the surface of the soil. In a preferred embodiment, the strike plate is pressed against a spring force by the cams and strikes back under the spring load. The ground rod can also be made in several parts connected by means of connecting elements in a further embodiment.
