- This correction amount is a value for adjusting the difference between the operating point of the amplifier when the coefficient of the approximate expression is obtained and the operating point in the currently used state. For example, when the correction amount is set to 1.0 and the coefficient of the approximate expression is adjusted by setting the amplifier to the maximum output, when the amplifier output is used at half the maximum value, the correction amount is also reduced to 0.5, which is half. By doing so, it is possible to perform nonlinear correction in accordance with a change in the operating point of the amplifier.
- the coefficient stored in the inverse characteristic coefficient storage unit 50 is correctly distorted when the correction amount is 1.0 and the attenuation amount of the variable attenuator 31 is such that the output of the amplifier 32 becomes the maximum output. - the nonlinear distortion generated by the amplifier 32 whose output power is halved from the linearizer 20 can be corrected correctly. That is, when it is desired to multiply the output of the amplifier 32 by X, the attenuation amount of the variable attenuator 31 should be multiplied by 1 / X and the correction amount to the linearizer 20 should be multiplied by X.
- the attenuation amount of the variable attenuator 33 may be multiplied by 1 / Y and the correction amount to the linearizer 10 may be multiplied by Y.
- the output of the amplifier 32 can have the same amplitude / phase characteristics as the output of the linearizer 10 by nonlinear distortion correction in the linearizer 20. That is, the distortion of the amplifier 32 can be corrected.
- the equivalent output of the amplifier 32 is input to the amplifier 34 through the variable attenuator 33, whereby the nonlinear distortion in the output of the amplifier 34 is corrected.
- the spectrum mask standard of the transmission output may differ for each modulation scheme.
- the output power can be raised because the restrictions on the spectrum mask are loose, and there are cases where the output power cannot be raised too much because the spectrum mask is severe, so the level diagram inside the amplifier can be changed depending on the conditions. Used under optimum conditions.
- FIGS. 3A and 3B An example of the input / output characteristics of each amplifier 32, 34 is shown in FIGS. 3A and 3B.
- 3A shows the input / output characteristics of the first-stage amplifier 32

- FIG. 3A shows the input / output characteristics of the first-stage amplifier 32
- FIG. 3B shows the input / output characteristics of the second-stage amplifier 34.

- the operating point of the second-stage amplifier 34 is set to the range A in FIG. 3B reflecting the variable range of the variable attenuator 33.
- the output power is reduced, but the nonlinear distortion generated at the first stage is small, and only the nonlinear distortion of the amplifier 34 at the second stage is dominant, and it can be sufficiently corrected even by a feedforward type linearizer according to the related art.
- the operating point of the first-stage amplifier 32 is set to point B in FIG. 3A.
- the operating point of the amplifier 34 at the second stage is set in the range B in FIG. 3B, and the output power increases, but the generated nonlinear distortion also increases. Nonlinear distortion also occurs to some extent in the first stage amplifier 32.
- FIG. 4A to FIG. 4C are a summary of the above-described states in a spectrum state. 4A to 4C show the spectrum of the first stage amplifier 32 output (linearizer off), the second stage amplifier 34 output (linearizer off), and the second stage amplifier 34 output (linearizer on) in order from the left. ing.
- FIG. 4A shows a state in which distortion is generated only in the second-stage amplifier 34 and a linearizer according to the related art adapted to the second-stage amplifier 34 is used.
- FIG. 4B shows two amplifiers 32
- FIG. 4C shows a state in which the two amplifiers 32 and 34 are each distorted, and the linearizer according to the embodiment of the present invention is distorted. The state when applied is shown.
- the linearizer according to the related art can suppress the nonlinear distortion by providing a coefficient whose characteristics are matched to the amplifier 34. it can.
- Such a method is used when a linearizer according to the related art is used and the spectrum mask is severely limited. However, in this case, the output power cannot be increased too much.
- the usage of raising the operating point of the first-stage amplifier 32 to some extent and further amplifying with the second-stage amplifier 34 is set when the restriction of the spectrum mask is relatively loose.
- the linearizer according to the related art is adapted to the characteristics of the amplifier 34, the first stage amplifier 32 is not corrected. Therefore, the distortion generated by the first-stage amplifier 32 remains in the final output spectrum.
- each of the amplifiers 32 and 34 is used in a state of generating distortion.
- distortion generated in the amplifier 32 is corrected by the linearizer 20, and distortion generated in the amplifier 34 is corrected by the linearizer 10.
- the output power can be increased while correcting the nonlinear distortion. That is, distortion correction of the preceding stage amplifier 32 is performed by the subsequent stage linearizer 20, and distortion correction of the subsequent stage amplifier 34 is performed by the preceding stage linearizer 10. This can be explained as follows.
- the transfer function of the amplifier 32 at the previous stage is aG1 (x)
- the transfer function of the linearizer 20 that corrects it is G1 ′ (x)
- the transfer function of the amplifier 34 at the second stage is bG2 (x)
- the transfer function of the linearizer 10 be G2 ′ (x).
- a represents the amplification factor of the amplifier 32
- b represents the amplification factor of the amplifier 34
- x represents the input signal.
- the non-linear distortion of the amplifier 32 at the front stage by the linearizer 20 at the rear stage, the non-linear distortion of each amplifier can be corrected by an individual linearizer.
- the output of the amplifier 32 at the first stage is a signal including the correction of the amplifier 34 generated by the linearizer 10.
- First stage linearizer 10 output: G1 '(x) Second stage linearizer 20 output: G2 '(G1' (x)) First stage amplifier 32 output: aG1 (G2 '(G1' (x)) Second stage amplifier 34 output: bG2 (aG1 (G2 '(G1' (x)))
- the distortion correction of the amplifier in the earlier stage is configured to be performed in the linearizer in the subsequent stage, and by performing nonlinear correction in accordance with the amplifier in each stage, even if a plurality of amplifiers are used at any operating point, It can be seen that the distortion can be correctly corrected by the linearizer corresponding to each amplifier.
- FIG. 5 shows a configuration example of another embodiment in the case where m (m is an integer of 3 or more) amplifiers are arranged in series.
- the principle is the same as that of the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1, and a linearizer that performs nonlinear distortion correction of the amplifier in the previous stage is arranged later.
- the (mn + 1) th linearizer corrects the n (n ⁇ m) th amplifier 32-n. This is because, as described above, the output of the front-stage amplifier also includes the nonlinear correction component of the rear-stage amplifier, so the predistortion for the front-stage amplifier must be performed in a form that also includes the correction component of the rear-stage amplifier. Because it must.
- the present invention can be applied to a power amplifier for amplifying a transmission signal in a transmission unit of a wireless communication device, and in particular, a power amplifier having a function of correcting nonlinear distortion of an amplifier, a nonlinear distortion correction method for a power amplifier, and wireless Applicable to communication devices.

Abstract
