Abstract

A skateboard comprises a board (b) having an upper surface for supporting a user, and a lower surface. Front and rear wheel mounts (c) are fixed to the lower surface of the board (b) and spaced apart along the longitudinal axis of the board (b). Front and rear wheels (a) are mounted to the board (b) respectively by said at front and rear wheel mounts (c). Each of the front and rear wheel mounts (c) defines a single fixed axis of rotation relative to the board (b) about which each of the respective wheels is rotationally mounted. The wheels (a) are spherical and the board (b) travels on the attached spherical wheels (a), with either one, or more or no spherical wheels (a) protruding through the board (b), on the central long exis of the board (b).

Description

SPORTS BOARD
Background
This invention is a new outdoor land board which improves the user's balance skills by challenging the ability of the rider.
Aimed ideally at surfers and snowboarders who can use it as a training board, when one cannot surf or snowboard, to keep skill and balance levels up. Also used by others as a new boarding activity.
Statement of Invention
The invention is a board which travels on attached spherical wheels, with either one, or more or no spherical wheels protruding through the board, on the central long axis of the board.
Advantages
Spherical wheels provide superior turning ability and sharper fluid turns as the rider creates movement through a side to side motion and the rider turns by applying more weight to the rear of the board which lifts the front spherical wheel up and off the ground so they can then pivot off the back spherical wheel allowing the board to turn.
The deck, designed with holes in, enables the rider to use the spherical wheels as a brake and for technical tricks or with out holes with no braking.
The invention is ideal as a training board to develop balancing skills. Drawings Description
This invention will now be described by referring to the following drawings:
Figure 1 shows the top of the sports board and the underside of the sports board;
Figure 2 shows close up of sports board upside down showing one of the spherical wheels;
Figure 3 shows version with two spherical wheels protruding through the board;
Figure 4 shows version with one spherical wheel protruding through the board;
Figure 5 shows models with no spherical wheels protruding through the board;
Figure 6 shows rider standing on board with both spherical wheels on the ground;
Figure 7 shows rider pivoting off back spherical wheel with other wheel off the ground showing underside of board; and
Figure 8 shows rider pivoting off back spherical wheel with other wheel off the ground showing top of board.
In Figure 1 two spherical wheels 'a' are attached to the board 'b' by connectors 'c'. In this figure spherical wheels 'a' protrude from underside of board 'e' through holes 'd' to upper surface of board T.
Figure 2 shows close up of 'a' and 'b' connected by 'c'.
Figure 3 shows version of board with two holes 'd' through which spherical wheels 'a' protruding slightly. Figure 4 shows example of board with one hole 'd' through which spherical wheels 'a' protruding slightly.
Figure 5 shows model with no spherical wheels 'a' protruding through the board 'b'.
Figure 6 shows rider 'g' standing on board 'b' with both spherical wheels 'a' on the ground.
Figure 7 shows rider 'g' pivoting off back spherical wheel 'a' with other spherical wheel 'a' off the ground showing underside of board 'e'.
Figure 8 shows rider 'g' pivoting off back spherical wheel 'a' with other spherical wheel 'a' off the ground showing top of board T and shows rear hole 'd' used as brake with rider's show 'h' connecting to spherical wheel 'a'.

Claims

1. A skateboard comprising: a board having an upper surface for supporting a user, and a lower surface; front and rear wheel mounts fixed to the lower surface of the board and spaced apart along the longitudinal axis of the board; and front and rear wheels mounted to the board respectively by said at front and rear wheel mounts, wherein each of said front and rear wheel mounts defines a single fixed axis of rotation relative to the board about which each of said respective wheels is rotationally mounted.
2. The skateboard of claim 1 wherein each of said wheels is substantially spherical.
3. The skateboard of claim 1 or 2 wherein the board comprises at least one aperture formed therein and at least a portion of at least one of the wheels is received within the at least one aperture such that it may be engaged by a foot of the user in use to control the motion of the skateboard.
4. The skateboard of claim 3 wherein the at least one of the wheels is arranged such that at least a portion of the wheel extends through the aperture and protrudes above the upper surface of the board.
5. The skateboard of any preceding claim comprising only two wheels.
6. The skateboard of claim 5 wherein both of the wheels are received with corresponding apertures formed in the board such that a portion of each wheel protrudes above the upper surface of the board.
7. A skateboard comprising a board having spherical wheels attached thereto, wherein at least one of the wheels protrudes through the board along the central axis thereof.
8. A skateboard substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and/or as shown in figures 1 to 8.
