Description
Description
A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE
[0001] The present invention relates to a household appliance that operates in two different modes, being the operating mode and the service mode.
[0002] When a problem is encountered while using the electronically controlled household appliances, for example a washing machine, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, an oven or a dryer, the problem is detected by setting the appliance to the service mode by the service personnel. The malfunctions that occur in the operating mode wherein the household appliance performs the normal functions are detected by the software of the appliance and necessary precautions are taken for bringing the appliance to a safe status. The service mode is a mode different from the operating mode of the household appliance wherein the software of the appliance is deactivated and the malfunction controls are performed manually. In the service mode, upon deactivation of the safety settings in the appliance software, the problem in any component of the appliance is detected by the service personnel and the appliance is delivered to the user in a safe condition by remedying the malfunction.
[0003] After the household appliances are changed to the service mode, the process steps in this mode are automatically performed in a certain sequence. For example, in the test phase of the washing machine by changing to the service mode, the machine components like valves, the motor, the pump are controlled whether they operate as intended by following the process steps such as taking water into the machine by opening the valves, rotating the motor to right and left, pumping for discharging the water from the tub, and spinning. During these activities if there is a problem with the said components, for example if the motor triac short circuits, this problem cannot be automatically detected since the safety settings of the appliance software are deactivated, and the motor accelerates uncontrollably leading to dangerous results. In such cases, the service personnel being near the appliance becomes important in preventing the problems in due time. Since the service mode is a mode comprising the possibility of encountering such problems, it is not a safe
mode for the user, when the user accidentally enters this mode or if the service personnel encounters a problem in this mode, the appliance should be made to abort the service mode for maintaining safety of the user/service personnel.
[0004] In state of the art, setting the appliance to the service mode is done in ways such as pressing a predetermined key or a combination of keys disposed on the appliance again in a predetermined sequence or by entering a code. After changing to the service mode, the process steps performed in this mode proceed cyclically and changing from this mode to the operating mode is not possible unless the key or key combinations predetermined by the producer are pressed simultaneously or successively. In the state of the art, an embodiment describing returning to the operating mode when the service mode is entered accidentally or when a problem is encountered in this mode has not been found.
[0005] The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance wherein the operating safety is enhanced.
[0006] The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is explicated in the claims.
[0007] After the household appliance of the present invention is changed to the service mode, if the selector predefined by the producer is not actuated within a certain time period, the appliance returns back to the operating mode. Accordingly, in cases when the household appliance is set to the service mode unintentionally, it is changed automatically back to the operating mode to provide the safety of the user.
[0008] After the household appliance is changed to the service mode the household appliance proceeds between the process steps upon actuating the selector within the time interval predefined by the producer. Thus, the service personnel is made to wait by the household appliance during the service operations thereby preventing the possible hazards that might occur in this mode.
[0009] After the household appliance is changed to the service mode, if the selector, predetermined by the producer, is not actuated within a certain time period, the appliance returns back to the operating mode.
Consequently, in cases when the household appliance is changed unintentionally to the service mode, it is changed automatically back to the operating mode to provide the safety of the user.
[0010] In an embodiment of the present invention, in the household appliance changed to the service mode, the time required to elapse for re-actuating the selector predetermined by the producer after it is actuated can be changed by the service personnel so that the service mode can continue. Thus, in cases considered necessary, the service mode processes can be performed in a shorter period of time.
[0011] In various embodiments of the present invention, the service mode the household appliance is set by actuating the selector is a mode like the test mode wherein the repair and maintenance operations are implemented or a programming mode for updating of the programs or the factory default settings recorded in the control unit.
[0012] In an embodiment of the present invention, the selector is a push-button predetermined by the producer that maintains the operations in the service mode to continue, preventing returning back to the operating mode.
[0013] In another embodiment of the present invention, the service mode operations are continued by actuating more than one selector simultaneously at certain intervals and the household appliance is changed from the service mode to the operating mode if more than one selector is not actuated simultaneously within a certain time period.
[0014] In another embodiment of the present invention, the service mode operations are continued by actuating more than one selector successively at certain intervals and the household appliance is changed from the service mode to the operating mode if more than one selector is not actuated successively within a certain time period.
[0015] In another embodiment of the present invention, the selector is a sound receiver that maintains the operations in the service mode to be continued and prevents the return to the operating mode.
[0016] The household appliance of the present invention can be a refrigerator, a washing machine, a dishwasher, a dryer or an oven.
[0017] The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present
invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where: [0018] Figure 1 - is the perspective view of a household appliance. [0019] The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
1. Household appliance
2. Control unit
3. Selector
[0020] The household appliance (1) can operate at two different modes, an operating mode wherein the normal operations are performed and a service mode, that is different from the operating mode. The service mode is preferably a test mode set for performing the repair and maintenance operations. The household appliance (1) comprises a control unit (2) that maintains one of the operating or service modes to be activated and controls the operation of the household appliance (1) in the selected mode and at least one selector (3) that sends a command to the control unit (2). The control unit (2) maintains the service mode to be continued by actuating at least one selector (3) predetermined by the producer at predetermined time intervals after changing to the service mode, and to automatically change from the service mode to the operating mode if not actuated. In case the service mode is set accidentally, for example by the user, and the selector (3) is not actuated at the end of the predetermined time, the household appliance (1) automatically returns back to the operating mode. Thus, the hazards that may arise in an accidentally set service mode are prevented.
[0021] After the household appliance (1) is set to the service mode, the household appliance (1) is made to proceed between the service mode process steps by actuating the selector (3) at time intervals predetermined by the producer. The service mode process steps comprise the processes predetermined by the producer for detecting whether there are any malfunctions in the components of the household appliance (1). Particularly when a problem arises during the use of the household appliance (1), in this preferred embodiment when the service personnel sets the household appliance (1) to the service mode for determining the problem, the service operations can be performed controllably. For
example, when the household appliance (1) is a washing machine, the selector (3) determined by the producer is actuated at certain intervals after the service mode is set, first the valves are opened for receiving water into the machine, then the motor is rotated, afterwards the water in the tub is pumped out thereby the functioning of various components are tested.
[0022] In another embodiment of the present invention, in the household appliance (1) changed to the service mode, after actuating the selector (3), the time required to elapse for re-actuating thereof, predetermined in the control unit (2) by the producer, can be changed by the service personnel so that the service mode can continue.
[0023] In an embodiment of the present invention, the selector (3) is a push-button that is actuated by pressing thereon.
[0024] In another embodiment of the present invention, the service mode is continued by simultaneously actuating more than one selector (3) predetermined by the producer and the service mode is abandoned returning to the operating mode if not actuated.
[0025] In another embodiment of the present invention, the service mode is continued by actuating in a successive sequence more than one selector (3) predetermined by the producer and the service mode is abandoned returning to the operating mode if not actuated.
[0026] In another embodiment of the present invention, the selector (3) is a sound receiver that sends the command to the control unit (2) for staying in the service mode or returning to the operating mode by abandoning the service mode. The sound detected by means of the selector (3) is evaluated in the control unit (2) so that the household appliance (1) stays in the service mode. When a sound is not detected by means of the selector (3), the service mode is aborted automatically returning to the operating mode.
[0027] In another embodiment of the present invention, in the service mode, the updates relating to the programs or the factory default settings recorded in the control unit (2) of the household appliance (1) are implemented.
[0028] The household appliance (1) of the present invention can be a refrigerator,
a washing machine, a dishwasher, a dryer or an oven. In the household appliance (1) of the present invention, the service mode processes are performed controllably, and in cases of setting the service mode unintentionally, the return to the operating mode is made automatically thereby maintaining safer conditions of use.
