Abstract

 本発明の外部変調器の制御装置は、光源からの出射光を入力信号に基づいて変調する外部変調器の制御装置であって、前記光源の出力を制御する光出力制御手段と;所定の周波数を有する低周波信号を生成して、出力する低周波信号生成手段と;前記入力信号である第1の変調信号と前記低周波信号とを重畳させて第2の変調信号とし、この第2の変調信号を前記外部変調器に印加する信号重畳手段と;前記外部変調器の光出力から前記低周波信号成分を検出し、この検出した低周波信号の位相と前記低周波信号生成手段から出力される前記低周波信号の位相とを比較し、その位相差情報を出力する低周波信号検出手段と;前記光出力制御手段によって、前記外部変調器の出力が所定の目標値以下となるように前記光源の出力が制御されているときに、前記位相差情報に基づいて前記外部変調器の動作点の引き込み制御を行う動作点制御手段と;を有する。
