Abstract

A valve plate device placed between a cylinder head and a cylinder block, the cylinder head having a suction chamber and a discharge chamber, the cylinder block having a cylinder bore. The valve plate device includes a valve plate having a suction hole for interconnecting the suction chamber and the cylinder bore and also having a discharge hole for interconnecting the cylinder bore and the discharge chamber, a suction valve placed on that surface of the valve plate which faces the cylinder block and opening and closing the suction hole, and a discharge valve placed on that surface of the valve plate which faces the cylinder head and opening and closing the discharge hole. A rib is provided on at least either a valve seat section of the valve plate, with which valve seat section the suction valve comes into contact, or a valve seat section with which the discharge valve comes into contact. The rib extends inward from the valve seat section and is covered by the suction valve or the discharge valve. In the valve plate device, the suction valve and the discharge valve maintain for a long time their characteristics of smooth and quick operation. Further, the valve plate device does not require excessive power consumption and does not produce vibration and noise.
