Abstract

A system for providing an IPTV service based on social networks comprises a social network service server and an IPTV service apparatus. The IPTV service apparatus includes: a user information management unit for collecting social network profiles using user identification information through the social network service server; a social network information management unit for acquiring social network information based on the collected social network profiles and determining an importance level by analyzing the acquired social network information. Further, the system for providing an IPTV service based on social networks includes a contents creation unit for creating various contents using the determined importance level; and an adaptor for providing contents selected by a user among the various contents to the user using the IPTV service.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING IPTV SERVICE BASED ON SOCIAL NETWORK

[7] As well known, many people have recently had their personal social networks through various internet messengers and online community services such as Yahoo group, Naver Cafe, Daum Cafe and the like.
[8] A system for providing such social networks enables people to communicate with other people who want to meet through the Internet. Therefore, people can continuously keep in touch with family, people who attended the same school or people with similar interests or hobbies and share information with them.
[9] However, there is a limitation in that social networks described above are provided only through the Internet such as Internet messengers or Internet portals. Since semiconductor and information/communication technologies have been rapidly developing, technologies for providing a personalized IPTV service by using personal social networks based on the internet are highly demanded.

[I I] In view of the above, the present invention provides a system and method for providing an IPTV service based on social networks by collecting social network profiles using user identification information, determining the importance level based on the collected social network profiles, creating various contents using the determined importance level, and then providing the IPTV service with contents selected by a user terminal to wireless/wire terminals including mobile communication terminals. Technical Solution
[13] In accordance with a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a system for providing an IPTV service based on social networks. The system comprises a social network service server and an IPTV service apparatus, wherein the IPTV service apparatus including:a user information management unit for collecting social network profiles using user identification information through the social network service server; a social network information management unit for acquiring social network information based on the collected social network profiles and determining an importance level by analyzing the acquired social network information; a contents creation unit for creating various contents using the determined importance level; and an adaptor for providing the IPTV service with contents selected by a user terminal from the various contents to a mobile communication terminal.
[14] In accordance with a second aspect of the present invention, there is provideda method for providing an IPTV service based on social networks. The method includes: obtaining user identification information; collecting social network profiles by searching for information about social network services which a user and other people are signed-up for using the obtained user identification information; determining an importance levelbased on the collected social network profiles; creating various contents using the determined importance level; and providing the IPTV service with contents selected by a user terminal from the various contents to a mobile communication terminal.
Advantageous Effects
[15] In accordance with the present invention, the social network profiles are collected using the user identification information, the importance level is determined based on the collected social network profiles and then various contents are created by using the importance level. Then, an IPTV service with contents selected by the user terminal is provided to wireless/wire terminals including mobile communication terminals so that significantly improved personalized services can be provided to the user.

[23] Fig. 1 is a block diagram of a system for providing an IPTV service based on social networks, which includes a user terminal SSl, a wireless/wire communication network Sl, the Internet S2, an IPTV service apparatus 11 and a social network service server 13.

In step S201, the user information management unit 1 Ia obtains user identification information, e.g., user personal information, from the user terminal SSl through the wireless/wire communication network S 1 if requested for an IPTV contents service.
[28] In step S203, the user information management unit 1 Ia accesses the social network service server 13 through the Internet S2. Then, the user information management unit 11a collects social network profiles by searching for various information about the social network services which the user and other people, e.g., his/her acquaintances, are signed-up for, e.g., various information for IPTV contents services, using the obtained user identification information through a standard application programming interface (hereinafter, referred to as an "API").
[29] In step S205, the user information management unit 1 Ia gets a permission to use personal information from each user for each social network service to be collected by the user in order to determine what extent personal information can be permitted for each social networking service. Here, since unauthorized use of the personal information may invade the privacy of the users, the personal information is used in various levels for each social network service, as will be described hereinafter with reference to Fig. 3.
[30] In step S207, the user information management unit 11a provides the collected social network profiles to the user information DB 1 Ib and the social network information management unit 1 Ic. The user information DB 1 Ib stores the social network profiles from the user information management unit 11a.
[31] Fig. 3 is a flow chart for describing a process for calculating the importance level based on the social network profiles in accordance with the present invention.
[32] As shown in Fig. 3, the social network information management unit l ie calculates the importance level based on the social network profiles supplied from the user information management unit 1 Ic. In step S301, the social network information management unit l ie determines importance categories of the social network profiles by analyzing importance calculation profiles each of which is defined for each social network service in advance.
[33] In step S303, the social network information management unit 1 Ic accesses the social network service server 13 through the internet S2 and then acquires social network information needed for calculating the importance level through the standard API based on the social network profiles categorized by the importance.

To be specific, if the user shares all information with acquaintances, i.e. if they have a very close relationship with each other, a highest level of importance is assigned. [35] In step S307, the social network DB 1 Id stores information about the importance level of the acquaintances fed from the social network information management unit l ie.
[36] The contents creation unit 1 Ie includes the program creation unit 1 Ie-I, the commercial creation unit 1 le-2 and the shopping contents creation unit 1 le-n. Although the contents creation unit l ie has been described to include the program creation unit 1 Ie-I, the commercial creation unit 1 le-2 and the shopping contents creation unit 1 le-n, it may also include specific units for different services based on the social networks of the user with acquaintances, for example, exercises, health, food and the like, as occasion demands.

[40] In order to provide the best display of the contents selected by the user terminal SSl from a variety of contents fed from the contents creation unit 1 Ie, e.g., programs, commercials, shopping contents and the like, the adaptor Hf provides an IPTV contents service, which is optimized for the processing speed of a central processing unit (hereinafter, referred to as a "CPU") of a mobile communication terminal SS2 and for the transmission speed of a wireless network S3, to the mobile communication terminal SS2 through the wireless network S3.
[41] The social network service server 13 enables the user and acquaintances to keep their personal social networks through various internet messengers and online community services such as Yahoo group, Naver Cafe, Daum Cafe and the like.
[42] In accordance with the present invention, the social network profiles are collected using the user identification information, the importance level is determined based on the collected social network profiles and then various contents are created by using the importance level. Then, an IPTV service with contents selected by the user terminal is provided to wireless/wire terminals including mobile communication terminals, so that significantly improved personalized services can be provided to the user.
[43] While the invention has been shown and described with respect to the preferred embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the following claims.

Claims
[1] A system for providing an IPTV service based on social networks, the system comprising: a social network service server; and an IPTV service apparatus, wherein the IPTV service apparatus includes: a user information management unit for collecting social network profiles using user identification information through the social network service server; a social network information management unit for acquiring social network information based on the collected social network profiles and determining an importance level by analyzing the acquired social network information; a contents creation unit for creating various contents using the determined importance level; and an adaptor for providing contents selected by a user among the various contents to the user using the IPTV service.
[2] The systemof claim 1, wherein the importance level is determined by analyzing the social network information such that if a user shares all information with other people, a highest level of importance is assigned, if the user shares specialties and hobbies with other people, a medium-high level of importance is assigned, and if the user shares basic information with other people, a normal level of importance is assigned.
[3] The systemof claim 1, wherein the user information management unit gets an agreement on personal information use for social network services for information collection.
[4] The systemof claim 1, wherein the contents creation unit includes: a program creation unit for creating program contents using the determined importance level; a commercial creation unit for creating commercial contents using the determined importance level; and a shopping contents creation unit for creating shopping contents using the determined importance level.
[5] A method for providing an IPTV service based on social networks, the method comprising: obtaining user identification information; collecting social network profiles by searching for information about social network services signed-up by a user and other people on a basis of the obtained user identification information; determining an importance level of the collected social network profiles; creating various contents using the determined importance level; and providing contents selected by a user terminal among the various contents to the user using the IPTV service.
[6] The method of claim 5, wherein determining the importance levelbased on the collected social network profiles includes: determining importance categories of the collected social network profiles; acquiring social network information by accessing a social network service server using the social network profiles categorized by the importance; and determining the importance level based on the acquired social network information.
[7] The method of claim 6, wherein the importance level is determined by analyzing the social network information such that if a user shares all information with other people, a highest level of importance is assigned, if the user shares specialties and hobbies with other people, a medium-high level of importance is assigned, and if the user shares basic information with other people, a normal level of importance is assigned.
[8] The method of claim 5, wherein the various contents include program contents created by using the determined importance level, commercial contents created by using the determined importance level and shopping contents created by using the determined importance level.
[9] The method of claim 5, further comprising getting a permission to use personal information for each social network service signed-up by the user and other people.
