Abstract

 本発明の光拡散シートおよび液晶表示装置が有する光拡散層10は、屈折率の低い物質(第2物質)が、主面に垂直な断面におけるそれぞれの形状が観察者側に底辺を有し、液晶表示パネル側に頂点を有する二等辺三角形に近似される複数の低屈折率領域(第2領域)14を形成している。複数の低屈折率領域は、高屈折率物質(第1物質)から形成された高屈折率領域(第1領域)内に、主面に平行な面内の少なくとも1つの方向において所定のピッチPで配置されている。低屈折率領域の形状および大きさが所定の関係を満足するので、主面に垂直に入射する光は、光拡散層内で1回だけ全反射された後に光拡散層から観察者側に出射し、主面に傾斜した角度で入射する光の一部は、光拡散層内でn回(nは2以上の整数)以上全反射された後に光拡散層から観察者側に出射する。その結果、上記少なくとも1つの方向における視野角特性が向上させられる。
