Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To provide: a surface-treating agent for preparing a thin film having an excellent lubricating property, excellent workability and an excellent anti-rust property on the surface of a processed material, a sliding member or the like; a method for treating a surface by using the surface-treating agent; and a mechanical component comprising a thin film having an excellent lubricating property, excellent workability and an excellent anti-rust property on the surface of a member. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Disclosed are: a surface-treating agent comprising 30 to 95 mass% of a volatile liquid having a boiling point of 300˚C or lower, 1 to 50 mass% of a lubricant base oil and/or an anti-rust agent and 0.1 to 50 mass% of a compound having an amide group; a method for treating a surface, which comprises adhering the surface-treating agent on a member to cause the volatilization of the volatile liquid contained in the surface-treating agent; and a mechanical component having a gel-like thin film on its surface, wherein the gel-like thin film comprises 2.0 to 99.8 mass% of a lubricant base oil and/or an anti-rust agent and 0.2 to 98.0 mass% of a compound having an amide group and has a thickness of 0.1 to 50 μm.
