Abstract

In a liquid crystal layer (LC), a first pixel area (p1), a second pixel area (p2), and a third pixel area (p3) are provided. A color filter layer (23) having a black matrix area (23a) facing the first pixel area (p1), a black matrix area (23b) facing the second pixel area (p2), and a color filter area (23c) facing the third pixel area (p3) is provided. The first pixel area (p1) and the second pixel area (p2) are driven by individual image data in the state in which the third pixel area (p3) is not driven to generate outgoing light (L1, L2) in mutually different directions. This realizes a display panel resistant to visual identification of the image for display to the first direction and the image for display to the second direction at the same time even when observed from the front.
