Abstract

A metal/resin composite article with sliding contact surface with mate member that realizes metal/resin integration with a satisfactory bonding strength and maintains stable slidability for a prolonged period of time, and that in order to reduce any sound made at sliding or impact suffering, has a hydroxylated coating provided on at least the sliding-contact-side surface of the metal, the hydroxylated coating having its surface integrally fixed with the resin. For example, in the case of a resin coated gear, a hydroxylated coating (4) is formed by hot water treatment on the face (3) of tooth part (2) of a metal gear (1a), and the gear is set in a metal mold (6). Subsequently, a molten thermoplastic resin is poured through a pouring gate (8), so that the space defined by the inner circumferential surface of a cavity (7) and the hydroxylated coating of the gear is filled with the thermoplastic resin. Thereafter, the thermoplastic resin surface of the resultant product is worked by cutting to thereby obtain a resin coated gear (1).
