Abstract
A method of composite molding for ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene and rubber that reduces any variation in rubber/ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene adhesion among molded articles and attains an enhancement of production efficiency. In the composite molding method, an unvulcanized rubber compound (31) provided by blending a rubber reinforcement and a vulcanizing agent with rubber is inserted in a given position (21) within an injection molding metal mold composed of a fixed mold segment (11) and a movable mold segment (14) whose at least one part is movable. The movable part (13) of the movable mold segment (14) is moved to thereby provide a molding cavity (22) larger than the volume of final molded article within the injection molding metal mold. An ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (32) is injected into the molding cavity. Thereafter, the movable part (13) of the movable mold segment is moved so that the molding cavity within the injection molding metal mold becomes the volume of target final molded article to thereby effect compression molding. The resultant molded article is taken out from the injection molding metal mold, and warmed to thereby bring the rubber compound portion into vulcanized form.
