Abstract

A process for the production of bisphenol A which is improved in order that a low-viscosity slurry of crystals having large diameters can be formed in batch crystallization to enable smooth changeover from batch crystallization to continuous crystallization. In the crystallization step, the crystallization is initiated by conducting batch crystallization operation in a crystallization tank, and in the batch crystallization operation, the change of degree of supersaturation per unit time at the point of time when the bisphenol A concentration of the solution in the tank has reached saturation is adjusted to 0.1 to 8°C/h.
