Description

Device for, securing circular control elements
Field of technology
The invention concerns a device for securing circular control elements, in particular steering wheels, against unauthorized tampering .
State of the art
Diverse solutions to the security of circular control elements are known from technical practice. As regards for example different types of stop elements with a circular control element, such as valves and the like, they are usually secured very infrequently in practice. The means of securing is usually a simple seal that makes it possible to inspect if the control element has been tampered with. In several cases they are secured using a chain with a padlock. Tampering is often prevented by removing the control element and storing it in another location. This type of security has a disadvantage - low level of protection. Seals can be easily removed and a chain does not pose a big obstacle, either. If the control element is kept away from the stop element, there is the risk of delay when the control element has to be procured, which could be dangerous for example in various chemical plants, during fires and so on.
As for securing cars against theft, they can be secured among other things by different mechanical barriers that prevent any movement of the gearshift, pedals or the steering wheel. A single steering wheel is locked either by an element - a chain or a lever - connecting it to the pedals. These security elements can be removed rather easily, for example by cutting and so on. Other possibilities involve different levers attachable to the steering wheel . Once again, their disadvantage is that they can be easily overcome. Existing mechanical security systems do not provide an adequate degree of protection against the potential car theft.
Essence of the invention
The shortcomings mentioned above can be eliminated to a large extent by a device for securing circular control elements, in particular steering wheels of cars, against unauthorized tampering, as stipulated in this invention. Its essence is that it comprises a guard consisting of two circular panels, interconnected along their perimeter so that the gap between them is larger than the thickness of the control element. The guard as such is divided into two semicircular segments interconnected with a hinge on one side and a lock on the other side. One panel is fitted with a pass-through hole in the middle.
The lock is advantageously positioned under a cover. The lock advantageously comprises a padlock whose shackle is fixed to the cover and the lock body is removable. The cover is advantageously made from sheet 2mm thick, and at least a half of the panel can be fitted with a tape over the division to cover the dividing plane.
The inner surface of the guard can be treated with a soft layer to prevent any damage to the surface of the circular control element. The device as described in this technical solution prevents the possibility to control circular stop elements, e.g. for gas, oil, water and the like, as well as steering wheels manually, this eliminating unauthorized tampering and even car theft .
The guard comprises two panels enclosing the control element so that access to it is impossible. The panels are interconnected along their perimeter with a gap larger than the thickness of the circular control element, and the guard can therefore freely move on the control element . The guard is divided into two semicircular segments, interconnected with a hinge on one side so it can be easily mounted on different control elements, including a steering wheel. The hinge allows maximum opening. The lock on the other side will prevent any unauthorized tampering. The pass-through hole in the middle of one panel is intended to accommodate a guide bar, a shaft and so on. Since the lock is placed in a cover, it cannot be tampered with and the cover invalidates the use of any crowbar.
The lock advantageously comprises a safety padlock whose shackle is fixed to the cover and whose body is removable. This solution is cost-effective and meets high security criteria.
The guard can be made from various materials, but a sheet 2mm thick is the most suitable. This material is sufficiently resistant to damage, but can be easily surface-treated.
The panels can be fitted with a tape in the place of division to cover the dividing plane when the guard is closed. This increases resistance of the guard to opening, for example by inserting a wedge and so on. If the inner surface of the guard is fitted with a soft layer, it prevents any damage to the surface of the circular control element . - A -
The proposed solution is also effective in terms of acquisition price, appearance, speed of mounting, lifetime and environmental effects. The device can be painted with a reflex color that will notify any unauthorized person of the specific safety measure .
Brief description of the drawings
The device for securing circular control elements, in particular steering wheels of cars, against unauthorized tampering, as stipulated in this invention, will be described in greater detail in a specific embodiment using the attached drawings, where figure 1 shows a plan view of the device for securing circular control elements and figure 2 shows its cutaway view.
Embodiments of the invention
An example of the device for securing steering wheels against unauthorized tampering comprises guard I1 consisting of two panels 2_, 3_ of a circular shape. Panels 2_, 3_ are interconnected along the perimeter by a peripheral wall so that the gape between them is not larger than the thickness of the steering wheel rim. Guard 1 is divided into two semicircular segments, interconnected with hinge 4^ on one side and 6_ on the other side, with the guard diameter being 395mm. One panel 3^ i-s fitted with a pass-through hole in the middle, with a diameter of 250mm, for the steering wheel rod. Lock §_ is placed in cover T_ and comprises a padlock. The shackle is fixed to cover 7. in one segment. In the other segment there is a surface with holes corresponding to the shackle of lock S_ in the place of the lock. The body of lock 6_ is removable and is fitted with a safety cylinder. The whole guard 3. is made from a sheet 2mm thick. One half of panel 2, is fitted with a tape in the place of division to cover the dividing plane. The inner surface of guard 1 is treated with a soft layer to prevent any damage to the surface of the circular control element. Guard 1 is painted with reflex orange color, which cannot be virtually overlooked. This color is usually absolutely different from other colors used e.g. in the automobile industry and therefore causes respect and deters unauthorized persons by itself.
Guard 1 opens and one of its halves is fitted on the steering wheel. After that the other half is covered up so the steering wheel is fully enclosed in guard 1. The steering wheel rod passes through the central pass-through hole in panel 3_ of guard 1^. After covering up, the shackles of padlock 6_ will pass through the corresponding holes in the other segment of guard 1. Both halves are then locked using the body of padlock 6_. In this condition the device is virtually non-breachable . It can be opened with the opposite sequence - padlock (> is unlocked, the body is taken out and a half of guard I^ is opened up. After that the whole guard 1 is removed.
Industrial applicability
The device for securing circular control elements, in particular steering wheels of cars, against unauthorized tampering, as stipulated in this invention, can be used especially in the automobile industry, in heavy industry, in secondary industries and the like.
