Abstract

Disclosed is a process for producing ethylene oxide by feeding ethylene, oxygen and an organic chlorine compound into a reactor containing a catalyst. In the process, the activity, selectivity, life duration or the like of the catalyst can be improved by running the reaction while controlling the feed rate of the organic chlorine compound in accordance with the cumulative number of moles of chlorine atom in the organic chlorine compound fed into the reactor at a reaction stage where the amount of the organic chlorine compound fed into the reactor is small, and then adjusting the feed rate of the organic chlorine compound to an optimal value.
