Abstract

 架橋性液晶分子を配向させ固定化させた位相差層と、該位相差層上に柱状構造体とが設けられた位相差制御用光学部材であって、これを用いて液晶セルを形成した際に、外部から液晶セルの厚み方向において圧力をかけられたときであっても、柱状構造体が、位相差層内にのめりこんで局部的にセルギャップを小さくすることを効果的に防止することができる光学部材を提供する。  位相差層上に設けられた柱状構造体において、その下底面積の合計を当該柱状構造体が設けられた位相差層表面のうち特に有効表示領域の全面積に対して十分に大きくすることによって、厚み方向より与えられる圧力を分散せしめる。
