Abstract
A battery-shaped device (2) for use in a battery-operated product (4), which battery-shaped device (2) comprises a body (6) which is in the shape of a battery, terminal means (8) for enabling the battery-shaped device (2) to be inserted as a battery into the battery-operated product (4), and receiver means (10) for receiving wireless signals whereby the battery-shaped device (2) is able to control operation of the battery-operated product (4) consequent upon the battery-shaped device (2) receiving signals from a remote station.
Description
A BATTERY-SHAPED DEVICE FORUSE IN A BATTERY-OPERATED PRODUCT
This invention relates to battery-operated products and, more especially, this invention relates to a battery-shaped device for use in a battery-operated product.
There are many different known types of battery-operated products. These battery-operated products are usually operated via an on/off switch which is moved by hand. For many known battery-operated products, it would be an advantage if they could be operated remotely.
It is an aim of the present invention to provide the above mentioned advantage.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a battery-shaped device for use in a battery-operated product, which battery-shaped device comprises a body which is in the shape of a battery, terminal means for enabling the battery-shaped device to be inserted as a battery into the battery-operated product, and receiver means for receiving wireless signals whereby the battery-shaped device is able to control operation of the battery-operated product consequent upon the battery-shaped device receiving signals from a remote station.
The battery-shaped device of the present invention may be especially easy and convenient to use. For example, the battery-shaped device may be
inserted in a battery compartment of a battery-operated product in place of a normal battery. The battery-shaped device may be used in any suitable and appropriate battery-operated product, for example toys and security devices. The toys may be adult sex toys such for example as vibrators, or they may be children's toys such for example as battery-powered cars. The security devices may typically be radios and lamps which can be turned on and off remotely, thereby giving the impression to potential burglars that premises are occupied.
The battery-shaped device may be of the same size as a battery intended for use in the battery-operated product. In this case, the body will usually be of the same size as a body of the battery to be replaced. The body may include a recess for receiving an auxiliary battery which is smaller than , the battery-shaped device and which is for providing battery power for the battery-operated product. In this case, the auxiliary battery may provide the sole power for the battery-operated product if the battery-operated product operates on only one battery. Alternatively, the auxiliary battery may provide auxiliary power if the battery-operated product operates on two or more batteries. In this case, the auxiliary battery can act to provide some or all of the power that would have been provided by a normal battery which has been replaced by the battery-shaped device.
The body may be in the shape of a battery or circular cross section. Alternatively, the body may be in the shape of a battery of rectangular or square cross section. Generally, the battery-shaped device can be in the shape of any known battery which it is to replace.
The battery-shaped device may be one in which the body has a first end provided with a first integral electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means.
The body may have a second end provided with a second integral electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means.
Alternatively, the body may have a second end which is open so that a second end of an auxiliary battery in the body is able to provide a second electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means.
Generally, the battery-shaped device may have any suitable and appropriate terminal means enabling the battery-shaped device to be inserted as a battery into the battery-operated product.
The receiver means may be a receiver only. Any suitable and appropriate known type of such receiver means may be employed.
Alternatively, the receiver means may be a transceiver which is able to receive and transmit. Such a transceiver may enable the battery-operated product to be used in an interactive mode, for example in which it receives signals and transmits a response, with the transmitted response being able to influence further received signals.
In a simple form, the receiver means may act simply as a switch to switch the battery-operated product on or off. Usually the battery-operated product will be provided with a manual on/off switch, and in this case, the manual on and off switch will need to be in the on position in order to enable the receiver means to receive the wireless signals and the battery-shaped device to be able to control operation of the battery-operated product
consequent upon the battery-shaped device receiving the signals from the remote station.
If desired, the receiver means may be a complex receiver means associated with appropriate control circuitry enabling the battery-operated product to operate in various modes. For example, with a battery-operated product in the form of a vibrator, the battery-shaped device may have appropriate electronic circuitry for enabling appropriate connection to electronic circuitry in the battery-operated product for enabling the battery- operated product to operate in a variety of different modes, for example fast and slow modes, and/or controlled by music, light or other command signals sent from the remote station. The remote station may be any suitable and appropriate remote station able to transmit. For example, the remote station may be a remote computer terminal.
The wireless signal may be any suitable and appropriate wireless signal including a radio signal, an infrared signal, and an ultrasonic signal. The wireless signal may be directed via one or more satellites. The battery- operated product may have a plug-in facility enabling the battery-operated product to be connected to a computer so that the battery-operated product can be operated via a remote computer, and if desired may be operated in an interactive form between two or more computers.
The present invention also provides a battery-operated product when provided with the battery-shaped device.
As indicated above, the battery-operated product may be any suitable and appropriate product. Typically the battery-operated product may be a toy
such for example as an adult sex toy or a children's toy. Also typically the battery-operated product may be a security device such for example as a radio or a lamp.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a battery-shaped device for use in a battery-operated product;
Figure 2 shows a normal battery sequence of three batteries for the battery-operated device shown in Figure 1 ;
Figure 3 shows the battery sequence shown in Figure 2, but with one battery removed and replaced by the battery-shaped device shown in Figure
1;
Figure 4 shows a second battery-shaped device for use in a battery- operated product;
Figure 5 shows how a third battery-shaped device, which is a reverse arrangement of the second battery operated device shown in Figure 4, may be used in a battery sequence as shown in Figure 3;
Figures 6 - 12 show different modes of control of the battery-operated device shown in Figure 1 ; and
Figure 13 shows another battery-operated device able to operate in multi-mode functions.
Referring to Figure 1 , there is shown a battery-shaped device 2 for use in a battery-operated product 4. The battery-shaped device 2 comprises a body 6 which is in the shape of a battery.
The battery-shaped device 2 has terminal means 8 for enabling the battery-shaped device 2 to be inserted as a battery into the battery-operated product 4.
The battery-shaped device 2 also comprises receiver means 10 for receiving wireless signals whereby the battery-shaped device 2 is able to control operation of the battery-operated product 4 consequent upon the battery-shaped device 2 receiving the signals from a remote station.
As can be seen from a comparison of Figures 2 and 3, the battery- shaped device 2 is used in between two batteries 12, 14 and in place of a battery 16. The battery 16 can simply be removed, and the battery-shaped device 2 inserted in its place.
Figures 2 and 3 illustrate schematically how the battery-operated product 4 is provided with a manually-operated on/off switch 18 and a manually-operated power/speed switch 20. The on/off switch 18 has to be in the on position before the receiver means 10 is able to receive the wireless signals and cause operation of the battery-operated product 4. The power/speed switch 20 may be manually operable and/or it may be arranged to be operable consequent upon wireless signals received by the receiver means 10.
Figure 4 shows a second battery-shaped device 22. This battery- shaped device has front positive terminal means as in the case of the battery- shaped device 2. The battery-shaped device 22 is such that its body 24 is provided with a recess 26 for receiving an auxiliary battery 28. The auxiliary battery 28 is smaller than the battery-shaped device 22. The auxiliary battery
28 is for providing battery power for the battery-operated product 4. In this case, it will be appreciated that the auxiliary battery 24 acts to supplement the power provided by the batteries 12, 14. If the battery-operated product 4 were to be such that it operated with only one battery, then the auxiliary battery 28 would be the battery providing the electrical power.
The battery-shaped devices 2, 22 are such that their bodies 6, 24 are in the shape of a battery of circular cross section. In an alternative embodiment of the invention (not shown), the bodies may be in the shape of a battery of rectangular or square cross section.
The bodies 6, 24 are provided with a first integral electrical terminal 30 forming part of the terminal means 8. This integral electrical terminal 30 is a positive terminal but it could equally well be a negative terminal if desired.
The body 6 may have a second end provided with a second integral electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means 8. Such a terminal will be a negative electrical terminal if the integral electrical terminal 30 is a positive one. Alternatively, as shown in Figure 4, the body 24 may have a second end 32 which is open so that a second end 34 of the auxiliary battery 28 is able to form a second electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means 8. In the case shown in Figure 4, the second end 34 of the auxiliary battery 24 forms a negative electrical terminal.
The receiver means 10 may be a receiver only. Alternatively, the receiver means 10 may be a transceiver which is able to receive and transmit. In this case, the battery-operated product 4 may be for interactive use, for example controlled by wireless signals from a station under the control of a
user, and also one or more other stations under the control of remote participants. The receiver means 10 may operate on any suitable and appropriate wireless signal including radio signals, infrared signals and ultrasonic signals.
Figure 5 shows a third battery-shaped device 35 which is a reverse arrangement of the second battery-shaped device 22 shown in Figure 4. Figure 5 also shows how the third battery-shaped device 35 is used in a battery sequence as shown in Figure 3.
Figure 6 shows two of the battery-operated products 4, receiving wireless signals 36 from two remote stations in the form of computers 38, 40. The computers 38, 40 are connected via the Internet 42. The computers 38, 40 have a web cam 44, a microphone 46 and speakers 48. The computers 38, 40 also have interface means 50 for enabling the computers 38, 40 to interface with the battery-operated products 4. Interface means 50 may include a transmitter for transmitting the wireless signals 36.
Figure 7 shows the battery-operated products 4 receiving the signals 36 from a mobile telephone 52. The wireless signals 36 may be from Bluetooth or of a radio frequency, or network/text message signals.
Figure 8 shows the battery-operated product 4 receiving the signals 36 from an interactive digital radio 54 via interface means 50 having a transmitter.
Figure 9 shows the radio 54 replaced with an interactive television 56;
Figure 10 shows the radio 54 replaced with a television 58 and an interactive disc cassette or DVD player 60. In this case, the signals
transmitted can be in dependence upon what is being played in the player 60. In Figures 8, 9 and 10, the signals 36 may be the same as or different from the signals 36 mentioned for Figure 7.
Figure 11 shows an interface 66 connected to an Internet/telephone landline 64. The Internet and phone line are represented as 62. As an example, it will be seen that a toy car 68 is able to be remotely controlled by the interface 66 via the Internet and phone line 62 and 64. Also shown in Figure 11 is how an electrically-powered device having a plug 70 may be connected to a wall socket 72 via an interface 74. The interface 74 may be able to transmit and/or receive the signals 36.
Figure 12 shows the battery-operated product 4 receiving the signals 36 from an interface 76. The interface 76 may be connected to a portable music player 78 via a jack 80. The interface 76 may act as a splitter to enable earphones 82 to be connected to the portable player 78 for normal listening. The portable player 78 may be for playing media, DVD, CD or music.
Figure 13 shows how a battery-operated product 84 can have a first operational end 86 and a second operational end 88. The first operational end 86 may be a tip. The second operational end 88 may be a tickler. The first operational end 86 may be operated by a motor 90. The second operational end may be operated by a motor 92. A motor 94 may operate a shaft (not shown). Each motor 90, 92, 94 is able to be operated by a battery 96. One or more of the batteries 96 may be removed and replaced by a battery-shaped device of the present invention. With three of the battery- shaped devices of the present invention, then the battery-shaped product 84
may be operated remotely in three different modes, namely a tip mode, a tickler mode and a shaft mode. The battery-operated product 84 may be provided with a manual switch 98. The switch 98 may be a simple on/off switch or it may also control manually required modes of operation. There may be one of the switches 98 for the entire battery-operated product 84, or there may be a separate one of the switches 98 for each one of the motors 90, 92, 94.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings have been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected.
Claims
1. A battery-shaped device for use in a battery-operated product, which battery-shaped device comprises a body which is in the shape of a battery, terminal means for enabling the battery-shaped device to be inserted as a battery into the battery-operated product, and receiver means for receiving wireless signals whereby the battery-shaped device is able to control operation of the battery-operated product consequent upon the battery- shaped device receiving signals from a remote station.
2. A battery-shaped device according to claim 1 in which the battery- shaped device is of the same size as a battery intended for use in the battery- operated product.
3. A battery-shaped device according to claim 2 in which the body is of the same size as the body of a battery to be replaced.
4. A battery-shaped device according to any one of the preceding claims in which the body includes a recess for receiving an auxiliary battery which is smaller than the battery-shaped device and which is for providing battery power for the battery-operated product.
5. A battery-shaped device according to any one of the preceding claims in which the body is in the shape of a battery of circular cross section.
6. A battery-shaped device according to any one of claims 1 - 4 in which the body is in the shape of a battery of rectangular or square cross section.
7. A battery-shaped device according to any one of the preceding claims in which the body has a first end provided with a first integral electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means.
8. A battery-shaped device according to claim 7 in which the body has a second end provided with a second integral electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means.
9. A battery-shaped device according to claim 7 in which the body has a second end which is open so that the second end of an auxiliary battery in the body is able to provide a second electrical terminal forming part of the terminal means.
10. A battery-shaped device according to any one of the preceding claims in which the receiver means is a receiver only.
11. A battery-shaped device according to any one of claims 1 - 9 in which the receiver means is a transceiver which is able to receive and transmit.
12. A battery-operated product when provided with a battery-shaped device according to any one of the preceding claims.
13. A battery-operated product according to claim 12 in which the battery- operated product is a toy.
14. A battery-operated product according to claim 13 in which the toy is an adult sex toy.
15. A battery-operated product according to claim 13 in which the toy is a childrens' toy.
16. A battery-operated product according to claim 12 in which the battery- operated product is a security device.
