Description

USER FRIENDLY MESSAGE TRANSMISSION IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORK
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a method of and system for user-friendly message transmission in a wireless telecommunication network, especially a mobile telecommunication network.
Prior art
SMSs can be sent for example in a GSM network by means of a SMS message service by which SMSs with a certain length for example at maximum 160 characters from a cell phone to another. The SMS is written with the phone's alphanumeric keys and they are sent to the recipient's number. The recipient gets a message that a SMS is received and can read the SMS at the phone's display. The SMS service is controlled by the Short Message Service Center (SMSC) operating as store-and-forward switching centre.
Publication GB-A-2 355 563 discloses a wireless telecommunication system providing only a necessary font to the user and transmits a possibility of a false display at the user's display. A wireless telecommunication bus server receives language information from the user and gives the necessary font to the user. The font is defined by using a user's control server having a user database. The bus server gets the font from a plurality of fonts that have been stored at the server.
In mobile phones can at the moment e.g. browsers be used that support pages written with XHTML. The size of the displays can nowadays be typically for example 176 x 208 pixels and the display area reserved for the content for example 176 x 144 pixels. The browsers can support three different font sizes being small, 12, normal, 13, and large, 17. These sizes correspond to eight, seven and six text lines.
A disadvantage with the conventional message transmission systems is that they do not take into account the user's needs especially due to the small assortment of the fonts. Summary of the invention
The object of the present invention is thus to achieve a system for transmission of messages wherein the user (can be an individual or a company) can send messages and contents to a mobile communicator and/or with a mobile communicator or a computer considerably more versatile than in conventional systems. In the system according to the present invention the font of the message or the contents that is sent can be chosen from the operator's (may be access or service operator or a service provider) server individually and suiting to each occasion e.g. due to feelings. The font is chosen for example by means of an application font menu.
The font can be a standard font or then the font can be chosen individually from a font selection in the operator's font server. The font alternatives: The fonts can be offered, sold and transmitted according to following characteristics for all purposes of use expressed in the application and drawings and also to purposes of use that can be derived from them: Status, attitude, feeling, purpose, character, brand, company and/or product identity and/or their combinations depending of the purpose of use in question.
The font itself can thus be loaded to the terminal's memory device, fixed or transportable/changeable, (memory card etc. FIG.3/FMEM1 ). And it remains resident until it is deleted. In one method the font can be loaded in a time limited manner, ie. it can be accessible only a certain period of time, for example 30 days from loading whereafter the terminal system or service provider system invalidates the use of the font either by preventing the file use with help of an auxiliary application or an in-built character or by deleting the font from the terminal. In another method the font can be accessible only a certain number of times of use or transmissions.
In addition the font selection can be offered to other operators for use as a so called roaming whereby the other operator gets an access to the operator's server (so called service roaming). Then the visiting operator or service provider operates as a subcontractor and gets the basic features of the service and/or the functionality of the service and/or total system from the operator in order to deliver it further to the users. The characterising features of the method and the system according to the present invention are in detail presented in the enclosed claims.
The teleoperators (see operator above) can with help of the invention get a new service concept which they can in addition also offer to other operators and service providers.
The client of the operator (see the client above) gets a new kind of way with high quality and low cost to produce and offer personified and individual content and telecommunication to the users.
The user on the other hand gets a totally new possibility to send and receive individual messages.
Short description of the drawings
In the following the invention is described in more detail by means of an example by referring to the enclosed drawing wherein
- Figures 1 to 3 present the principal service description as a triangle schedule, and
- Figure 4 presents a system according to the present invention, and
- Figure 5 presents an alternative system according to the present invention.
Description of a preferred embodiment
Fig. 4 shows a mobile telecommunication system with mobile phones MS1 , MS2 and a base station BS1 in order to transmit calls and messages. Message SMS1 is written with alphanumeric keys KEYB1 of the sender's phone MS1 with a display DISPL1 and memory means FMEM1 and is sent to the recipient's number. The recipient gets an announcement that a message is received to his phone MS2 and can read the message from the phone's MS2 display DISPL2. The message service can be controlled at the base station with a message centre SMSC 1.
Fig. 5 shows a mobile telecommunication system with mobile phones MS1 , MS2, servers FSERV1 , ISERV1 , computers COMP1 and a base station BS1 for transmission of calls, messages and contents. The message or content SIC1 is written with a alphanumeric keys KEYB1 of the sender's phone MS1 with a display DISPL1 and memory means FMEM1 and is sent to the recipient's number or server ISERV1. The recipient gets an announcement that a message is received to his phone MS2 and/or the recipient gets an announcement that a message is received to his server ISERV1 and/or computer C0MP1 and can read the message from the device's display and transmit further the message in the limits of the technical applications used. The message service can be controlled at the base station with a message centre SMSC1.
According to the invention a server FONTSERV1 is coupled to the message centre by which a desired font is attached to the message that is sent (SMS or a message or contents containing text). The font may be a standard font or alternatively the font can be chosen from an individual font selection (certain styles, own font names etc) stored at a storing device FONTMEM1 from the operator's server, or an individual font selection (certain styles, own font names etc) stored at the terminal's memory device FMEM1.
In order to be able to send his message the sender has to contact server FONTSERV1 or/and message centre SMSC1 depending on the method how the message and the contents are produced, FONTMEM1/FMEM1 :
a) If the sender has registered himself as a constant user of server FONTSERV1 , a service has possibly installed in his phone MS1 by the operator a service by which messages can be written with help of server FONTSERV1.
b) The sender can choose a desired font from font menu FMENU1 where he can browse fonts stored in the storing device FONTMEM1 of the server of the operator in question, or fonts stored in the memory device FMEM1 of the terminal MS1 and writes the message and sends it further.
The message server processes the incoming message and sends it further to the recipient.
In addition the font selection can be offered also to other operators in order to use it as so called roaming whereby the other operator (base station BS2, shown with broke lines) gets an access to the operator's server. So the solution according to the invention realizes solutions where the user Ul, services, programs and applications as well as existing colours, graphics and sounds, layout (skin) applied suitably or correspondingly the user-specific architecture and platform are applied according to Figures 1 , 2 and 3:
Methods:
1. The user can order a font by using a font menu which is thus in-built into the system, program, game or additional value service.
2. The user can order the font by using U I/Service/Layout menu, SMS, Internet or different kinds of gateway techniques which nowadays are the Bluetooth,
WAP1 EDGE, GPRRS1 BLUETOOTH, 3G, UMTS, WMCDA. The service availability is offered by the Service/Access operator for example on the Service Roaming principle whereby the other operator can be a real or also a virtual operator FONTOPER1 (Fig. 3). 2.1. The font menu can be a feature offered by the apparatus manufacturer, application manufacturer, service provider or the additional service provider in a certain type of a terminal. The availability of the font menu does not necessarily need an open network connection by help of different techniques but instead the basic menu can be defined beforehand. Different above mentioned parties can produce extensions in the form of updates or alike to the menu for example during each access contact if they are available.
2.2. SMS: When the request is for example LOVE and it is sent to number XXXXX, a font that is meant for this certain use/application and when necessary optimized in the display quality is returned as a response. 2.3. Internet: The fonts can be reviewed or tested in a network service where they can be ordered when needed to use by making an order according to the system process and terms. The font is delivered as a multimedia message to the terminal. 2.4 Bluetooth: The fonts can be viewed for example in on-line kiosks etc. where they can be ordered or delivered automatically by means of a Bluetooth- connection or alike for example as promotion products to the terminal in order to support the company's company communication and advertising needs or other applications mentioned in this application. 2.5. WAP, EDGE, GPRRS, BLUETOOTH, UMTS, WMCDA: As in 2.4.
Ordering and use methods: 3. The user can order the user rights of the font only to the user's own terminal or then so that the user rights also covers the recipient.
3.1. In the latter case the adaption of the user rights can also be handled also via the message transmitting server when the message is delivered whereby the user rights can be debited first when the message is delivered.
3.2. As a basic feature in a Message-application when sending the message only the characters used in the message are delivered with the message, the editing rights are not transferred to the recipient's terminal with the used font. In certain cases it is possible that an internal coding is built-in to the message in order to enable a fast and economical way to load for above mentioned font. In certain cases can be used font menu built-in to the message or application program for this purpose. The messages are delivered within the limits set by the techniques used, for example in SmartMessage, TextMessage or ExtendedMultimediamessage format. 3.3. As an extension feature the font is delivered together with the message as a whole including the user rights to the recipient in order to produce the contents, create new messages or to use the font according to existing U I/application/layout definitions. 3.4. In one method by using the font the contents can be produced for equipment having a fixed network connection or vice versa.
The applicability of the fonts in alternative methods:
4. The font can be available limited or everywhere.
4.1. A single font can be used only in one Service; a single font can be available by the Ul, Service, Layout.
4.2. Multiple fonts can only available by a single Service, multiple fonts can be available by the Ul, Service, Layout.
4.3. Depending on the product and service supply of the Service/access- operator as well as the service logistics in use the above mentioned font selection can be sent from one terminal to another for example as
EMMS(Extended MultiMediaMessage) or TMS (TextMessage) messages or SMS(ShortMessage) messages or MMS(MultiMediaMessage) messages.
It is apparent for a person skilled in the art that different embodiments and data transfer techniques do not limit only to the example shown above but instead they can vary according to the scope of the enclosed claims, as well as taking into consideration new possibilities offered by the future technologies and techniques.
