Abstract

A gastric retention drug delivery system (i.e. a controlled release drug dosage form) formulated so as to promote retention of the dosage form in the upper gastrointestinal tract and in particular the stomach, said drug delivery system comprising a combination of a solid hydrophilic swellable matrix component and a pharmaceutically active compound intermingled with said matrix component. The drug delivery system further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable gas generating component intermingled with said matrix component.
