Abstract

An improved rig assist compensation system is provided, comprising a motion compensation unit (21) operatively connected to a semi -submersible rig platform (23) having a blow-out prevention (BOP) stack (4); a hydraulic workover (HWO) jack (20) rotatably affixed above the BOP stack (4), wherein the HWO jack (20) includes a through-rotary portion (28), and a stationary portion (29); and a hydraulic motion compensator unit (30), positioned between the HWO jack (20) and the BOP stack (4). The hydraulic motion compensator unit (30) comprises a base frame (31) having a plurality of base cylinders (32); an upper frame (33) having a plurality of mating upper cylinders (34) to engage the base cylinders (32) in telescoping fashion, wherein the base frame (31) and the upper frame (33) are slidably connected, and are movable from an extended position and a retracted position.
