Abstract

An apparatus for the simultaneous application of carboxytherapy and mesotherapy, characterized in that there is provided at least one handpiece able to mix a treatment substance with carbon dioxide or oxygen or other suitable gas before injecting it to the patient. Said treatment substance is contained in a suitable tank.

Description

Apparatus for the simultaneous application of the carboxytherapy and the mesotherapy
The present invention relates to medicine and particularly an apparatus for the simultanenous application of carboxytherapy and mesotherapy. In particular, such apparatus is provided with a handpiece comprising a injection unit connected to the apparatus and a bottle containing the drug or the proximate principle to be injected. Such injection unit is provided with at least one needle to administer carbon dioxide into the derma of the patient with the addition of such drug or proximate principle .
There are apparatus dedicated only to carboxytherapy and mesotherapy presently on the market. The first therapy consists of administering carbon dioxide to the patient suffering from a specific pathology such as peripheral arteriopathy. Such administering is carried out by endermic or subcutaneous injection and is directed to provide positive results above all for the microcirculatory system. In fact, carboxytherapy improves the metabolic functions of a zone by its vasodilative effects and the increased release of the oxygen contained in haemoglobin, in situations of misdistribution of the microcirculation, as well as optimises the oxidative enzyme degradation of fat acids.
The second therapy consists of the injection of a small amount of drugs or proximate principles into the derma of the patient corresponding to the cutaneous projection of an organ or a portion of an organ in which a pathology is in progress. Such injection is made by thin needles provided with multiple injectors. The mesotherapy is little invasive and aims at the recovery of the physiology of the dermal area involved.
A drawback of the known state of art consists in that the conventional apparatus cannot inject carbon dioxide mixed with a treatment substance such as a drug, a proximate principle, a revitalization agent, a cosmetic, to the patient. To this end it should be appreciated that such mixture would have the considerable advantage of using carbon dioxide as carrier of the treatment substance as well as increasing the effectiveness of the latter due to the improvement of metabolic functions and circulation.
This synergistic effect cannot be reached if the two treatments are performed after each other as it was the case by using the known apparatus of the prior art. Therefore, the main object of the present invention is to overcome such drawback by providing an apparatus which allows carboxytherapy and mesotherapy to be administered at the same time. This has been achieved according to the present invention by that such apparatus is provided with at least a handpiece comprising an injection unit which is supplied with carbon dioxide from the apparatus and is connected to a bottle containing the treatment substance to be injected together with carbon dioxide. In order that carbon dioxide is administered to the patient with the addition of the treatment substance, said injection unit is provided with at least one needle that can be supplied with carbon dioxide together with said treatment substance.
A better understanding of the invention will result from the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings that show some preferred embodiments thereof only by way of example. In the drawings :
Figure 1 shows the apparatus according to the invention;
Figure 2 shows schematically a first embodiment of the handpiece;
Figure 3 shows schematically a second embodiment of the handpiece;
With reference to the above figures, the apparatus according to the preferred embodiment disclosed includes :
- at least a connecting pipe 5 between at least one carbon dioxide bottle and a control panel 7 of the known type, which pipe 5 is preferably provided with a filter 6, at least a pair of control pedals 17A and 17B connected to said control panel 7 by suitable cables, and
- a handpiece able to mix carbon dioxide with the treatment substance before injecting it to the patient .
According to a first preferred embodiment of the invention said handpiece includes an injection unit 18 which is connected by a first pair of pipes 15A and 15B to control panel 7 and by a second pair of pipes 20 to bottle F containing the treatment substance to be injected to the patient by an end needle 16. Each pipe 15A and 15B of the first pair is provided with a filter 14, and pedals 17A and 17B control the gas flow through the pipes of the first pair so that first pipe 15A controls the gas flowing into bottle F and coming out of the same together with the treatment substance, and second pipe 15B controls the gas flowing directly to needle 16.
Thus, only carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide with the addition of the treatment substance can be injected into the derma of the patient.
In the first case, only pipe 15B is fed so that only carbon dioxide passes to injection unit 18 to be injected into the derma of the patient by needle 16, thus allowing only carboxytherapy to be carried out. In the second case, carbon dioxide is fed into bottle F and comes out of the same together with the treatment substance through the second pair of pipes 20. Said mixture passes through the injection unit 18 and is injected into the derma of the patient by needle 16, thus allowing carboxytherapy and mesotherapy to be carried out at the same time. The injection can be intradermic or endermic or subcutaneous . Advantageously, the simultaneous application of carboxytherapy and mesotherapy allows the treatment substance to be quickly absorbed after the vasodilatation due to carbon dioxide. Furthermore, said treatment substance propagates quickly because of the vehiculation provided by the carbon dioxide. It should be appreciated that also oxygen or other suitable gas can be used as an alternative to carbon dioxide.
A second advantage is given by that the simultaneous application of carboxytherapy and mesotherapy allows the patient to get less injections with the result of less nuisance and/or pain suffered by the patient as well as a decrease in the treatment duration.
In the embodiment disclosed, control panel 7 is provided with operator's interface means comprising at least a display 8 and one or more control buttons 9- 13. With reference to figure 3, a second embodiment of the invention has a handpiece provided with control means for the operation of control panel 7 and control means for the operation of the handpiece. In this second embodiment said handpiece is connected to the control panel by one treatment gas feeding pipe and an electric connecting cable.
As can be clearly seen from figure 3, bottle F containing the substance or mixture for mesotherapy is in this case replaced by a syringe S for injections of the known type, and the handpiece is connected to control panel 7 by only one pipe 15B to supply the treatment gas (for example, CO2) as well as an electric connecting cable to operate the plunger driving means of said syringe able to proportion the amount of the substance for mesotherapy to be injected to the patient . Moreover, said handpiece includes a button TG for controlling the delivery of the gas flowing out of needle 16, preferably of the ON/OFF type, as well as a further control button TP operating the syringe plunger driving means . An advantage of this second embodiment consists in that the operator is allowed to inject only CO2, i.e. the substance for mesotherapy, to the patient or both substances at the same time. Thus, treatment of cosmetic medicine combining the hyperoxygenation effects of CO2 with the chemical action of the mesotherapy mixtures can be carried out. Such cosmetic treatments are useful for: reduction of cellulite by the increase in the microcirculation; - reduction of the edemas by improvement of the fluid exchange;
- reduction of the fat by the activation of lipolysis;
- toning-up of skin by fibroblastic stimulation;
- hydration of skin by GAGs; - rejuvenation treatment by tissue revitalization.
According to the invention, CO2 and the mixture (or substance) for mesotherapy is administered gradually and under control by only one injection. The apparatus according to the invention allows advantageously the amount of CO2 and the mixture for mesotherapy to be injected as well as the output pressure of the handpiece, the flow of CO2 in cc/sec
(cm3/sec), the flow of the mixture for mesotherapy in ml, and the total amount of the two flows to be controlled.
The control means are disposed both in the control panel of the apparatus and the handpiece. The pedal to control CO2 is not indispensable but particularly useful in the praxis.
According to the invention, the reduction of cellulite is obtained by combining the hyperoxigenation due to the physiologic action of CO2 and the chemical liposuction induced by phosphatidilcoline to avoid the fat deposits.
In parallel, the revitalization is obtained by combining the hyperoxygenation due to the physiologic action of CO2 and the revitalization due to hyaluronic acid, vitamins and aminoacids to achieve rejuvenation effects for the outward appearance of the skin. Furthermore, the toning-up is obtained by combining the hyperoxigenation due to the physiologic action of CO2 and the toning-up action due to superoxidedismutase of melon, the vitamin complex of papaya, and coenzymes to provide toning-up, antioxidant effects. The present invention has been described and illustrated according to a preferred embodiment thereof, however, it is self-evident that those skilled in the art can make technically equivalent modifications and/or replacements without departing from the scope of the present industrial invention.
