Abstract

A black and color inkjet cartridge testing and refilling device and method of use thereof. The device includes a testing station (56) and a refilling station (58) to be used in conjunction with an interface to guide a user through the steps associated with refilling an inkjet cartridge. The device includes waste ink storage, an ink refill supply (55), and house stickers and clips for placement on refilled cartridges to prevent drying. The device includes steps to guide a user through an initial determination of a capacity to refill the type of cartridge desired. The automated control system of the device provides users with help through cleaning procedures, test printing procedures, and purge operations.

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 23 July 2007 (23.07.07)
49. An ink cartridge testing device, said device comprising:
a housing;
a cartridge iesting station;
a paper printing device;
an automated control system; and
a display interface;
wherein the cartridge testing station, the display interface, and the paper printing device are mounted to the housing, and the automated control system is located inside the housing and is connected with a series of electronic controls to the testing station and the display interface.
50. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 49 further comprising:
a cartridge refilling station; and
an ink supply;
wherein the cartridge refilling station is mounted to the housing, the ink supply is connected to the cartridge refilling station hy an ink pumping and transporting means, and the automated control system is connected with a series of electronic controls to the refilling station and ink pumping and transporting means.
51. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 49 wherein the paper printing device is operative to perform a printing test.
52. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 51, wherein the printing test includes printing from an ink jet cartridge such that a user may determine a number of inoperative nozzles of the ink jet cartridge from a pattern printed on paper by the paper printing device.
53. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 49 further comprising:
at least a testing module with a testing interface comprising a series of connectors for performing an electrical integrity test on a cartridge equipped with associated nozzle connectors and for determining a number of nonfunctioning nozzles, and for comparing said number with a predetermined acceptable number by the automated control system to determine if a nozzle test is passed.
54. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 53, wherein the at least one testing module comprises a plurality of test modules able to test different sizes and types of ink cartridges.
55. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 49, wherein the paper printing device comprises:
a paper-based printing module for mounting a roll of paper; a plurality of guides to guide paper from the roll of paper toward test modules mounted in the cartridge testing station; and '
a motor lhat operates a roller to push paper from the roll of paper toward the test modules mounted in the cartridge testing station so that at least one ink jet cartridge in the test modules can print on the paper when the paper traverses under the ink jet cartridge.
56. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 55, wherein the paper-based printing module is a printing spindle module.
57. The ink cartridge testing device of claim 52, wherein the pattern printed on the paper by the paper printing device corresponds to an evaluation pattern, displayed on the display interface, representing an acceptable pattern printed by the paper printing device.
