Abstract

L’invention concerne un procédé de reproduction et de transmission multimédia à destination de clients sans fil. Selon l’invention, un serveur Web hôte transcode un signal audiovisuel ou radiodiffusé en direct numérique ou analogique et divise le flux d’entrée en petits objets multimédia par une compression efficace du type MPEG4/AAC, puis achemine immédiatement les objets à des serveurs de contenu répartis pour une population de clients sans fil disséminés géographiquement. Un lecteur d’objets à appliquettes java, télédéchargé jusqu’à des clients sans fil au début d’une session multimédia à la demande, interprète et décode les objets multimédia à mesure qu’ils sont reçus en utilisant une pluralité de niveaux d’optimisation. Chaque appliquette utilise des méthodes inédites d’optimisation de décodage audio et vidéo susceptibles d’être appliquées de façon générique à de nombreux codecs audio et vidéo numériques, et permettant notamment de décoder de la vidéo MPEG4 à profil simple et de l’audio AAC de faible complexité.
