Abstract

Procédés de traitement sur place d'amiante chrysotile contenant ACM utilisant un acide polycarboxylique, notamment un acide oxalique. L'acide polycarboxylique est introduit dans ACM tout en restant sensiblement sur place et contribue à convertir l'amiante en un matériau dépourvu d'amiante. Lorsque ACM sert de matériau d'isolation, les fibres de l'amiante sont recouvertes de plâtre susceptible d'être au moins partiellement retiré ou dissous. L'acide polycarboxylique attaque directement (1) l'amiante et/ou (2) dissout le plâtre et forme un acide sulfurique apte à attaquer l'amiante. L'acide sulfurique supplémentaire est introduit pour aider à la conversion de l'amiante en une forme non amiante. Le sulfate de magnésium peut être introduit pour conserver la stabilité structurale du matériau traité, avec pour effet de le maintenir sensiblement sur place. Selon une variante, le matériau traité est retiré de manière sûre.
