Description

STANDING BOARD AND BRAKING DEVICE
The present invention relates to a standing board with braking device, which standing board is intended to be coupled to prams and buggies of various designs . The invention also relates to a wheel device with a brake mechanism with which the wheel can be locked or released for rotation. Locking takes place in that pegs in a brake guard located on the outside of the wheel, preferably on the outside of a wheel fork, are brought into engagement with slots in the rim of the wheel . The device is intended primarily for standing boards for prams but it can also be used for many other purposes.
Standing boards for prams and buggies exist in various designs and adapted to different types of prams and buggies. The standing boards are primarily intended to let an older child go along with the pram or buggy standing on the board. For this purpose the principal components of a standing board consist of a board, fastening devices for coupling the board to the pram or buggy and at least one, preferably two, wheels on the underside of the board. The fastening devices can be designed to permit use of the braking device that is found more often than not on the pram or buggy, whereas standing boards in known executions are not provided with a separate braking device.
A standing board can be provided with a device for a child to sit on, it can alternatively be provided with loading space for goods. A board can also be designed only or primarily for goods. In cases where a board is used for sitting on or transporting goods, it is normal and predictable behaviour to let a child remain seated on the board or to let the board be loaded when the pram is parked on a possible slope. This is not normal if a child is standing on a board. Standing boards with a seating device or goods transport device should thus be provided with a braking device.
The existing braking devices on prams and buggies are not adequate to safely hold a carriage or buggy with coupled and loaded standing board stationary on a sloping base. Other occasions when these existing braking devices are inadequate are when a child sits down on the standing board of a stationary pram or jumps up onto the board. Unintentional movement of the pram or buggy can then cause damage of a simple or more serious nature both to people and objects.
The object of the present invention is an improved standing board to reduce or eliminate the problems described above.
Another object of the invention is to show a braking device for standing boards and other applications.
The invention is to be described in greater detail below in connection with the examples of executions shown in the drawings, but without the invention being limited in any way to these executions.
Figure 1 shows a pram with a coupled standing board according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows the standing board and its connection to the pram according to Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows a wheel device according to the invention in the unbraked position.
Figure 4 shows the wheel device according to Figure 1 in the braked position. Figure 5 shows another view of the wheel device according to Figure 3.
Figure 6 and 7 show a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Figure 8 shows the wheel device according to Figure 1 in side view.
Figure 9 shows a cross-section B-B of the wheel device according to Figure 8.
Figure 10 shows a cross-section A-A of the wheel device according to Figure 8.
In Figure 1, a pram 24 is shown very schematically with a standing board 20 attached. The pram has a handle 26 that consists of a frame of steel tube with two downward legs 24, 25 on which the standing board's fastening arms are mounted. The fastening arms can alternatively be fastened to the rear wheel axle of the pram or at other suitable fastening points, for which reason the attachment of the fastening arms to the board should permit great flexibility. In addition to its principal purpose, the standing board can also be used for transporting various kinds of loads, which is shown in the figure as a box 27 marked by dashed lines. It is perceived that the forces which can then come to act on the pram are entirely different than in its normal use, both with regard to the magnitude and direction of the forces and that a braking device acting on the rear wheel of the pram is not sufficient. The wheels of the standing board are therefore provided in the embodiment shown in the figures with individual braking devices.
A braking device for wheels according to the invention comprises a brake guard (7) mounted pivotably overlapping the wheel, the brake guard (7) having two legs (9, 10) pointing downwards that can be brought to bear against the wheel hub and are provided with means for engaging in corresponding openings in the hub.
The arrangement comprises a wheel (1) which on an axle (19) is mounted in a wheel fork (2) with two legs (4, 5) pointing downwards. A peg (3) on the upper side of the wheel fork is intended for rotatable fixing of the device in a standing board for prams, a stand or similar. A yoke-like device that is called brake guard (7) below is mounted on the outside of the wheel fork pivotably around two shaft journals (6) , one on each side of the wheel fork. The brake guard (7) has two legs (9, 10) pointing downwards, which bear flexibly against the legs of the wheel fork and in the released position of the wheel overlap these. On the inside of the legs (9, 10) of the brake guard is a peg (11) in each case which in the locked position of the wheel is in engagement with one of a plurality of slots (13) in the rim (14) of the wheel. In the released position of the wheel, the legs of the brake guard bear against flanges (12) on the legs of the wheel fork so that the pegs (11) shall not be able to engage with the slots (13) . The wheel rim is also thinner close to the hub.
When the wheel is to be braked, i.e. locked in a fixed position, one presses with the foot or in another way on the outer end of the arm (8) of the brake guard and so that this is rotated approx. 10 degrees around the shaft journals (6) and locked in this position with a locking tongue (15) . The locking pegs (11) are then pushed outwards on the wheel hub and engage in a slot (13) if one such is located in the right position, otherwise the pegs slide up on the surface of the thicker part of the rim and engage in a slot as soon as the wheel is rotated somewhat. In addition to the locking tongue (15) , the device is provided with means for locking and releasing of a type known in itself that does not form a part of the invention and is not therefore described in greater detail or shown in the figures.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in Figures 6 and 7. The arm (8) of the brake guard is divided in this execution and the outer part (16) with pedal surface (17) is fixed articulatedly in the inner part. Locking takes place due to pressure on the pedal surface (18) . When the wheel is in the released position the outer part (16) has no function, the aim is to prevent unintentional locking of the wheel, e.g. on account of someone treading on the arm of the brake guard by mistake. In the locked position for the wheel the brake guard recovers its shape and by that means provides room for the hand or foot to release the brake in that the outer part can have a releasing function when it is pressed down or lifted up.
Other embodiments of the invention are possible within the scope of the inventive idea. For example, the wheel attachment can take place in a manner that deviates from the wheel fork described above and the design of the brake guard is then adapted to this. These and other variations are obvious to the expert.
