Description

Description
FEED COMPOSITION FOR PET DOGS COMPRISING SILICATE BASED MINERAL AND FEED FOR PET DOGS
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates, in general, to a feed for pet dogs comprising silicate based SY feldspar, and, more particularly, to a feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and a feed for pet dogs, in which fine powder type SY feldspar, serving as the silicate based mineral, is added to a formula feed for pet dogs in a predetermined amount, so that the fine powder type SY feldspar taken up by pet dogs functions to improve the usability of nutrients including a small amount of inorganic material, adsorb harmful intestinal gases, and also, prevent the occurrence of dilute feces using ion exchange capacity, thus improving the properties and ap¬ pearances of excreted feces and minimizing offensive odors. Background Art
[2] Generally, with the increases in population of nuclear families and age based on the development of industry and economic wealth, pet markets are growing tremendously, and pet related products or services are receiving attention as a growth industry.
[3] The pet related industries in Korea drastically increased when peoples average income exceeded ten thousand dollars in 1995. Recently, thanks to the rapidly increasing demand for pets, the related industries have become diversified. For example, there are pet distribution, various products required for raising them, cosmetic services, pet caf s, pet insurance, and pet funeral industries. In addition, medical services for keeping the pets healthy and boarding or hotel services for temporarily caring for them may be provided by some agencies.
[4] It is well known that various examples of pets include cats, birds, hamsters, rabbits, iguanas, snakes, turtles, etc., as well as pet dogs. In particular, of the pets, while dogs, which are a carnivorous animal belonging to Carnivora, have been domesticated for about 12,000 years, many of them are raised as companion animals that are more familiar with human beings than any other pet. Presently, the number of pet dogs raised in Korea is assumed to be about 3.5 million.
[5] In the cases where the pet dogs are raised in homes, in the past, dogs were generally kept outdoors, using a dog house additionally built in a yard, for crime prevention. However, in recent years, while collective housing, including apartments and villas, has been supplied in abundance and the concept of a yard has disappeared, the dogs are raised in the living room or other rooms in the house. Therefore, the way of raising dogs as pets at present is greatly different from the past. [6] Thus, when the pet dogs are raised in the living room or other rooms in the house, owners have great difficulties enduring difficulties related to feces and urine excreted by the dogs. Particularly, when raising the pet dogs in the house, the owners may feel disgusted by strange furry smells diffused from the mouths or bodies of the pet dogs, and offensive odors caused by feces and urine excreted by the pet dogs.
[7] Further, frequently occurring when raising pet dogs, diarrhea in pet dogs is the most important problem directly related to life or death thereof. Therefore, the raiser should carefully select the kind of feed, and also, must take on economic burdens in the treatment of diseases.
[8] Hence, thorough attempts have been made to diminish the smells diffused from pet dogs or offensive odors generated by the excrement of pet dogs when raising the pet dogs. However, desirable results have not been obtained. This is because merely changing the kind of feed for pet dogs is insufficient to achieve desired purposes. Effective methods suitable for carnivorous pet dogs have not yet been found to diminish the smells thereof. Therefore, the present applicant discloses a specific silicate based mineral added to a formula feed for pet dogs in a predetermined amount to apply inherent physicochemical properties of minerals upon feed preparation. Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[9] Accordingly, the present invention has been made keeping in mind the above problems occurring in the prior art, and an object of the present invention is to provide a feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and a feed for pet dogs prepared therefrom, in which a feed composition composed of a formula feed for pet dogs and fine powder type SY feldspar serving as a kind of silicate based mineral mixed at a predetermined ratio is prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills, so that SY feldspar taken up by pet dogs can exhibit inherent ion exchange action within the body of the pet dog to greatly diminish strange furry smells diffused from the body thereof.
[10] Another object of the present invention is to provide a feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and a feed for pet dogs prepared therefrom, in which a feed composition composed of a formula feed for pet dogs and fine powder type SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral mixed at a predetermined ratio is prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills, so that SY feldspar taken up by pet dogs can exhibit inherent adsorption function within the body of the pet dog to adsorb the smells of feces and urine upon formation of animal feces directly before excretion of feces and urine, thus remarkably decreasing the smell of animal feces. [11] A further object of the present invention is to provide a feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and a feed for pet dogs prepared therefrom, in which a feed composition composed of a formula feed for pet dogs and fine powder type SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral mixed at a predetermined ratio is prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills, so that SY feldspar taken up by pet dogs can exhibit inherent adsorption function to accelerate water absorption within the body of the pet dog, thus preventing in advance the occurrence of diarrhea in pet dogs. Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
[18] Hereinafter, a detailed description will be given of a feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and a feed for pet dogs.
[19] SY feldspar is the kind of feldspar used in the present invention.
[20] Before describing the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and feed for pet dogs according to the present invention, the theoretical background of feldspar as a silicate based mineral is explained.
[21] All minerals constituting the earths crust are composed of at least one element, and amount to about 2,500 species over the world. Almost all of the minerals found in rocks include, for example, feldspar, quartz, mica, amphibole, pyroxene, calcite, or clay minerals. The other minerals are present in very small amounts. However, metamorphic rocks or ore deposits, which are a specific portion of the earths crust, include a variety of minerals, particularly, about 100 species of minerals. A mineral is defined as a solid formed from a monomer or compound of inorganic material produced in the natural world and having a uniform chemical composition in every portion thereof and a regular internal structure, but a changed chemical composition only in a limited portion thereof .
[22] The reason why the ideal definition of the mineral is provided is that, strictly speaking, a single mineral may have a non-uniform and different chemical composition in any portion thereof and a slightly different internal structure. In addition, produced in the natural world, amorphous inorganic solids, organic solids such as coal, liquid such as mercury and petroleum, and natural gases are not minerals, however may be widely regarded as minerals, and are called the quasi-mineral.
[23] The silicate mineral mainly constitutes the earths crust. According to K.E. Clarke, the earths crust comprises 59.5% feldspar, 16.8% amphibole and pyroxene, 12% quartz, 3.8% mica, and 1.5% ilmenite, amounting to 93.6% in which the silicate mineral is mainly included, and also, includes 6.4% limestone and apatite. In this way, feldspars constituting 60% of the lithosphere is mainly composed of silicon (Si), aluminum (Al), and iron (Fe), and thus is called the aluminosilicate minerals. Further, feldspars are specifically classified into orthoclase, albite, or anorthite, depending on the kind of additionally contained element, that is, potassium (K), sodium (Na) or calcium (Ca). The aluminosilicate minerals are divided as shown in Table 1, below, based on structural properties and anion types thereof.

Figure imgf000006_0001
[25] [26] As is apparent from Table 1, feldspar belongs to tectosilicates. The tectosilicate has a reticulate structure comprising SiO 4 tetrahedrons continuously connected to each corner of SiO tetrahedrons at the ratio of Si to O of 1 :2. The crystal structure of the feldspar is composed of reticulate SiO tetrahedrons and reticulate AlO tetrahedrons. In some cases, the above structure may be seen as a structure derived from SiO structures. When Al substitutes for Si of the SiO 4 tetrahedron, the resultant empty space is filled with Na+ or K+, to realize electrical balance. If one Si4+ is replaced with Al +, one Na+ or K+ is introduced and thus a stable structure is obtained. In addition, if two Si4+ are replaced with Al3+, a divalent cation such as Ca2+ is applied for electrical balance. That is, the structural change such as Si O →Na(AlSi O ) →Ca(Al Si O )
° 4 8 3 8 2 2 8 may occur.
[27] The ion exchange reaction on the crystal structure of the feldspar for electrical stability results in ion exchange capacity, adsorption, reactivity with chemicals, formability of organic and inorganic composites, and catalytic activities, referred to as various physicochemical activities or physicochemical affinities. [28] In the present invention, as the silicate based mineral mixed with the formula feed for pet dots, feldspar, which is represented by a general formula of MT O (in which M is Ca DNa DK DBa, and T is Al DSi) and is the most important rock-forming mineral con¬ stituting the earths crust, is provided. The feldspar constitutes about 60% of the lithosphere and may be seen in moonstone or meteoric stone. However, barium feldspar is difficult to produce.
[29] In this way, the feldspar obtained naturally belongs to a ternary system consisting of
CaAl SiO (anorthite, An), NaAlSi O (albite, Ab) and KAlSi O (potassium feldspar,
2 2 3 8 3 8
Or), as end components, and is represented by Or Ab An (x+y+z = 100). The solid x y z solution series between the anorthite and albite is referred to as plagioclase, and the solid solution series between the albite and potassium feldspar is referred to as alkali feldspar.
[30] The solid solution series between the potassium feldspar and anorthite is not naturally found. The feldspar comprising three-dimensionally connected SiO 4 tetrahedrons is classified into two kinds, that is, one belonging to a triclinic system and one belonging to a monoclinic system, each of which depends on ordering of Al and Si constituting the position of T of an MT O crystal structure. For example, if a mineral is produced at a high temperature, Al and Si are disorderly arranged and thus come to be a monoclinic crystal system. On the other hand, if a mineral is slowly produced at a low temperature, Al and Si are arranged in an orderly manner and thus belong to a triclinic system.
[31] In addition, the feldspar has a specific gravity of about 2.55-2.76 depending on its constituents, and hardness of 6, and is completely cleaved along the two planes of [001 ] and [010]. Further, the feldspar has colors, such as glass-like glossy white, cream color, pink, and gray, and in particular, feldspar called moonstone and labrodorite has traces of green, yellow, and blue color. This is because fine impurities (e.g., titanic iron ore) contained in the crystal or the alternation of strata of feldspars having two different components causes the interference of light.
[32] In addition, the feldspars have various twins. The potassium feldspar is known to have a carlsbad twin which is temporarily induced upon the growth of crystals, and also, albite and pericline twins are secondarily induced after the growth of crystals, almost all of which have twins in a form of fine flake aggregate.
[33] Thus, since the feed composition for pet dogs of the present invention comprises
SY feldspar as the silicate based mineral, chemical activities or chemical affinities of SY feldspar having physicochemical properties due to the large surface and surface function of the interlayer structure thereof, for example, ion exchange capacity, adsorption, moisture retention, reactivity with other chemicals, formability of organic and inorganic composites, catalytic activities, swelling ability, viscosity, plasticity and colloidal properties for dispersion and suspension of fine clay particles, may be utilized.
[34] The feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention has the following components. Specifically, the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention includes a formula feed for pet dogs and fine powder type SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral, mixed at a predetermined mixing ratio. As such, the mixing ratio of the formula feed for pet dogs and the fine powder type SY feldspar used as the silicate based mineral is in the range of 95-99: 1-5 wt%.
[35] Typically, although the formula feed for pet dogs is manufactured to have different components or component ratios by each manufacturer, any formula feed may be used in the present invention to form the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral. That is, even if the formula feed for pet dogs includes different components or component ratios for each manufacturer, it is preferably mixed with the silicate based SY feldspar in the mixing range of 95-99: 1-5 wt% to form the feed composition of the present invention.
[36] Used in the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention, the formula feed for pet dogs includes corn, wheat, wheat flour, rice bran, soybean cake, jade gluten, poultry by-product (chicken by-product), animal oil, processed salt, tricalcium phosphate, limestone, choline chloride, vitamins, minerals, and digestive enzymes. As such, if the above feed is solid, it may be used in the form of a powder.
[37] Specifically, the formula feed for pet dogs comprises 19-26 wt% corn, 14.6-15.4 wt% wheat, 7.6-8.4 wt% wheat flour, 6.6-7.4 wt% rice bran, 18.6-19.4 wt% soybean cake, 1.6-2.4 wt% jade gluten, 14.6-15.4 wt% poultry by-product (chicken by¬ product), 8.6-9.4 wt% animal oil, 0.25-0.4 wt% processed salt, 0.3-0.5 wt% tricalcium phosphate, 1-1.5 wt% limestone, 0.05-0.1 wt% choline chloride, 0.05-0.15 wt% vitamins, 0.05-0.15 wt% minerals, and 0.1-0.4 wt% digestive enzymes.
[38] In addition, in the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention, SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral is provided in the form of a fine powder having a size of 200 meshes or more. The reason why SY feldspar is formed into fine particle of 200 meshes or more is that the surface area is maximized through fine powdering to achieve the object of the present invention.
[39] In the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention, the silicate based SY feldspar is formed into fine powder of 200 meshes or more, so as to increase the binding capacity of the feed composition upon preparation of the feed composition for pet dogs into pellets or pills having a pre¬ determined size. [40] The feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention is prepared in the form of pellets or pills having a size of 5-15 mm suitable for being taken up by pet dots.
[41] Further, when the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention is prepared into pellets or pills which are then taken up by pet dogs, harmful intestinal gases may be adsorbed in the digestive tract of the pet dog directly before excretion (or treatment) of feces and urine, thus greatly diminishing the smell of the excreted feces and urine. Moreover, the amount of harmful gases absorbed through the intestinal wall is decreased, resulting in reduced urine smell.
[42] In addition, when the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention is prepared into pellets or pills which are then taken up by pet dogs, harmful intestinal gases may be adsorbed and excreted, thus removing strange furry smells of animals. Thereby, the indoor environment required to raise the pet dogs may be improved.
[43] In addition, when the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention is prepared into pellets or pills which are then taken up by pet dogs, the osmotic concentration may be controlled in the gastrointestinal tract of the pet dog directly before the excretion (or treatment), preventing the counterflow of water from the blood to the gastrointestinal tract. Thereby, the occurrence of dilute feces of the pet dogs may be inhibited.
[44] Useful as the silicate based mineral included in the feed composition for pet dogs of the present invention, SY feldspar has ion exchange capacity, changing from a cation to an anion, higher than other minerals. Hence, the feed composition for pet dogs comprising fine powder type SY feldspar as the silicate based mineral of the present invention is prepared into pellets or pills to be administered into pet dogs, so that the replaced anion acts to activate the metabolism of pet dogs to raise healthier and more active pet dogs.
[45] In addition, when the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention is prepared into pellets or pills which are then taken up by pet dogs, the usability of nutrients including a small amount of inorganic material may be improved through SY feldspar used as the silicate based mineral. Mode for the Invention
[46] A better understanding of the present invention may be obtained through the following examples which are set forth to illustrate, but are not to be construed as the limit of the present invention.
[47]
[48] [Example 1] [49] 95 wt% formula feed comprising 19 wt% corn, 15.4 wt% wheat, 8.4 wt% wheat flour, 7.4 wt% rice bran, 19.4 wt% soybean cake, 2.4 wt% jade gluten, 15.4 wt% poultry by-product (chicken by-product), 9.4 wt% animal oil, 0.4 wt% processed salt, 0.5 wt% tricalcium phosphate, 1.5 wt% limestone, 0.1 wt% choline chloride, 0.15 wt% vitamins, 0.15 wt% minerals, and 0.4 wt% digestive enzymes, were mixed with 5 wt% fine powder type SY feldspar serving as a silicate based mineral, to obtain a feed composition for pet dogs, which was then prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills.
[50]
[51] [Example 2]
[52] 99 wt% formula feed comprising 26 wt% corn, 14.6 wt% wheat, 7.6 wt% wheat flour, 6.6 wt% rice bran, 18.6 wt% soybean cake, 1.6 wt% jade gluten, 14.6 wt% poultry by-product (chicken by-product), 8.6 wt% animal oil, 0.25 wt% processed salt, 0.3 wt% tricalcium phosphate, 1 wt% limestone, 0.05 wt% choline chloride, 0.05 wt% vitamins, 0.05 wt% minerals, and 0.1 wt% digestive enzymes, were mixed with 1 wt% SY feldspar serving as a silicate based mineral, to obtain a feed composition for pet dogs, which was then prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills.
[53]
[54] [Example 3]
[55] 97 wt% formula feed comprising 20.5 wt% corn, 15 wt% wheat, 8.0 wt% wheat flour, 7.0 wt% rice bran, 19.0 wt% soybean cake, 2.0 wt% jade gluten, 16.0 wt% poultry by-product (chicken by-product), 10.0 wt% animal oil, 0.3 wt% processed salt, 0.5 wt% tricalcium phosphate, 1.2 wt% limestone, 0.05 wt% choline chloride, 0.1 wt% vitamins, 0.1 wt% minerals, and 0.25 wt% digestive enzymes, were mixed with 3 wt% SY feldspar serving as a silicate based mineral, to obtain a feed composition for pet dogs, which was then prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills.
[56] When the feeds for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills prepared using the feed composition for pet dots in Examples 1, 2 and 3 were individually taken up by pet dogs, the pet dogs preferred the feed composition prepared at mixing ratios of Example 3.
[57] In the present invention, SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral was used in an amount of 1-5 wt%. If the above amount is less than 1 wt%, ion exchange capacity, harmful gas adsorption, and absorption are insignificant, and thus, desired effects may not be expected. On the other hand, if the silicate based SY feldspar is used in an amount of 6 wt% or more, the resultant feed has functions, which are not greatly different from those of the feed including 1-5 wt% SY feldspar.
[58] When the feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills prepared using the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention was taken up by pet dogs, strange furry smells of animals were eliminated and also smells of excrements were remarkably decreased, thanks to the smell adsorption of SY feldspar used as the silicate based mineral.
[59] In addition, when the feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills prepared using the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention was taken up by pet dogs, the metabolism of pet dogs was activated to raise healthy pet dogs, thanks to the ion exchange capacity, changing from a cation to an anion, of SY feldspar used as the silicate based mineral.
[60] In addition, when the feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills prepared using the feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral of the present invention was taken up by pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills as a feed for pet dogs, the counterflow of water from the blood into the gastrointestinal tract was prevented, thanks to the function of SY feldspar used as the silicate based mineral of controlling the osmotic pressure in the gastrointestinal tract. Hence, the water concentration of feces was decreased, preventing the occurrence of diarrhea in pet dogs. Industrial Applicability
[61] As described above, the present invention provides a feed composition for pet dogs comprising a silicate based mineral and a feed for pet dogs. According to the present invention, the feed composition comprising a general formula feed for pet dogs and fine powder type SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral mixed at a pre¬ determined ratio is prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills, whereby strange furry smells diffused from the body of the pet dogs may be greatly diminished through the adsorption of SY feldspar included in the feed.
[62] In addition, the feed composition comprising a general formula feed for pet dogs and SY feldspar mixed at a predetermined ratio is prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills, whereby the smells of feces and urine upon the formation of animal feces directly before excretion of feces and urine may be adsorbed through the adsorption of SY feldspar included in the feed, thus remarkably decreasing the diffused smell.
[63] In addition, the feed composition comprising a general formula feed for pet dogs and fine powder type SY feldspar serving as the silicate based mineral mixed at a predetermined ratio is prepared into a feed for pet dogs in the form of pellets or pills, whereby diarrhea in pet dogs may be prevented in advance from occurring through the inherent function of SY feldspar of controlling water concentration in the gas¬ trointestinal tract.
