Abstract

A propulsion system 10 includes an elongate shock wave transmitting member 12 having first and second free ends 14 and 16. The shock wave transmitting member 12 is provided with a damping zone 18 located at the second free end 16 thereof. A displaceable impact member 20 is located near the first free end 14 of the shock wave transmitting member 12. An actuating means in the form of an electromagnetic coil 22 for causing the impact member 20 to oscillate and strike the first free end 14 of the shock wave transmitting member 12 is further provided.
