Abstract

The invention relates to a reconfigurable, real-time image-processing device for assisting patients with low vision. The inventive device consists of a portable multitasking platform for assisting patients with low vision or visual impairments, comprising a set of image processing operations (digital zoom, edge enhancement and multiplexing of edges with the original image). More specifically, the invention relates to a low-cost, portable platform which can be used simultaneously for different pathologies, which can be adapted to the requirements of different patients and which, for degenerative pathologies, can adapt to changes over time in the visual capacity of the patient. The inventive platform contains an image-acquisition system, a reconfigurable circuit for the real-time processing of images (Field Programmable Gates Array, FPGA), a user interface and a viewer which emits the processed image.
