Abstract

This invention relates to overcoming the problems of rigid, or semi-rigid, objects coming loose when held by a clamping system (2). By replacing the conventional screw with a flexible, tensioning component (32) capable of transmitting considerable force (if necessary in a serpentine path) and storing kinetic energy, clamping can be effected capable of maintaining a hold under a range of adverse conditions. It is expected where the object may contract or expand, under changes of humidity, temperature or other dimensionally modifying factors, that this system will maintain consistent clamping pressure. Conventional means of inducing tension (40) are utilised as illustrated by Item (40) in Fig1, claimping in a horizontal fashion on a workbench. The innovation lies in incorporating the elastic element (32) into clamping systems (2) and directing the forces as required. The clamping system (2) can be aligned in any attitude with the tensioning device (40) positioned for optimum practicality.
