Abstract
A pressure control device comprises first and second valve members (24 and 40). A normally-open orifice (60) between ports (12 and 14) can be closed against the force of a first spring (28) and a normally-closed orifice (62) between ports (14 and 16) can be opened against the force of a second spring (46). The valve members (24 and 60) are axially movable and have a first position in which the orifice (60) is open and the orifice (62) closed, a second position in which both orifices (60 and 62) are closed and a third position in which the orifice (60) is closed and the orifice (62) open. Central passages (32) and (48) equalise the pressures from end to end of the valve members (24 and 40) and the diameters (24a, 24b, 24c, 40a, 40b, 40c, 40d and 40e) are all equal. Thus the device is pressure-balanced in every position.
