Definitions
- the present invention relates to a subcalibrated projectile and intended to be mounted in a container in which it is conveniently retained, all in order to achieve total immobilization of the projectile inside the cartridge and subsequently in the barrel of the firing weapon, serving the container of pressure damping medium and shutter of the flue gases.
- the subcalibrated projectile is materialized in a single piece body that is complemented by an axial rod that is embedded under pressure inside the projectile body, and whose rod is capped in a conical tip, protruding from the front end of the projectile, also counting with external helical grooves, according to a remarkably inclined plane, which provide a high gyroscopic speed and exceptional turning accuracy.
- the projectile of the invention is intended to be launched by firearms, specifically shotguns, used in big game.
- the projectiles used in hunting shotguns are usually of smooth external surface, which results in a lack of stabilization in the shot and a not very high range, although it is no less true that there are projectiles constituted by two bodies fixed to each other, with the complement of a rod that, in addition to being an intern for the bodies and that constitute the fixing means for these, is finished off at a point of greater hardness than that of the aforementioned bodies, being that point of conical configuration determining the frontal means that It has to impact first on the target, usually on an animal.
- the projectile that is recommended based on the one described in the Spanish Utility Model 9902957 referred to above and belonging to the same applicant, presents a series of improvements or new characteristics that give rise to new benefits in the behavior of the projectile.
- the projectile of the invention has a unique body with a cylindrical configuration, with a completely hollow rear part for lightening the weight and an anterior part, in which the corresponding rod is located axially located on the hard front end of the projectile.
- this being of conical configuration but with its external base in the form of a spherical cap, which determines a perfect adjustment of said hard tip of the projectile rod on the mouth of the chamber established in the front part of the body, adjusting the rest of the rod in the latter under pressure to be perfectly sympathetic to it.
- the number of stretch marks with which the lateral surface of the projectile body is affected is specifically several and with a notable inclination, which allows the projectile to be provided with a gyroscopic speed practically equal to that achieved by means of a rifle.
- the hollow rear part of the body of the projectile in addition to lightening in weight to the same, allows to balance its trajectory in flight, avoiding headings or deviations as its front part is much heavier than its back or tail.
- the nature or material of the projectile body is preferably of lead with a high antimony content, thereby avoiding possible deformations within the firing gun barrel, even when the pressure to which it is subjected is the maximum, approximately 900 Kg / cm 2 , so that not suffering deformations inside the barrel the precision is increased since it will keep its stretch marks intact.
- the subcalibrated projectile of the invention offers the great advantage of not damaging at all the strangulation of the weapon, the diameter of the latter being two millimeters smaller than that of the barrel of the weapon or shotgun by which it is fired.
- the referred projectile also has the advantage that in the impact of the tip, in the form of a cap, against the animal, it sinks and penetrates into the air chamber established in the front part of the projectile body, transforming into shrapnel and causing An explosive wave inside the animal.
- Said projectile is complemented with a container determined by rectangular tabs that are equiangularly distant and provided with a fingernail to fix the projectile on its inner face, through an annular step of the latter in which these are precisely housed. nail.
- the tabs emerge from a closed back in base functions, which is attached to a damping means.
- Said container acts as an immobilizer of the projectile in the cartridge and in the barrel of the weapon, also serving as a pressure damper and a shutter for the firing gases, and is preferably made of density polyethylene.
- the hollow and rear part of the projectile body is filled with a material, preferably high pressure polyethylene, which is crossed by the axial rod itself, as it extends towards the rear, to the lower base of the projectile body itself, where it is fixed under pressure with a special thread.
- a material preferably high pressure polyethylene
- the conical tip provided at the front end of the rod instead of being in the form of a cap, is of a perfectly conical configuration, resting through its base at the flat end where the front part of the rod is finished.
- the tabs of the container instead of being provided with in its internal face of raking nails, are provided with arcuate projections from which and even inclined surfaces are determined sections or inclined surfaces that when taking the air under pressure, the opening of the tabs is favored to free the projectile, thus facilitating the exit or abandonment of the projectile with respect to the container.

- Figure 8 shows, finally, a side elevation view of the projectile assembly located inside the container corresponding to the previous figure, and where the projectile has the end or tip of its conical shaped rod.
- the projectile (1) of the invention comprises a body with a front part (2) and a completely hollow back part (3), so that a rod (4) is mounted on the front part ) that is fixed under pressure and that runs axially and steadily through a chamber (5) established in that part (2), the rod (4) being finished off on a tip (6) of conical configuration and external face in shape of cap (7) or of curved-convex surface, so that due to the conicity of that tip (6), it adjusts in the mouth of the chamber. (5), as clearly represented in Figure 1.
- the body (1) of the projectile is cylindrical and is affected by an annular step (8), in proximity to its upper end, specifically behind the trunk-conical part in which said body is topped frontally
- the lateral surface of the body (1) of the projectile is provided with several helical grooves ( 1 ) that affect both the part (2) and the back and hollow part (3), as shown in Figure 2.
- the said projectile (1) is intended to be housed and completely immobilized in a container
- the container (9) is the one that retains the projectile (1) inside the barrel of the firing weapon, serving as a pressure damper and shutter of the gases originated in the firing itself.
- the hollow back (3) of the projectile (1) in addition to lightening the latter in weight, is intended to balance its trajectory in flight, avoiding headings or deviations as it is much lighter than the front
- the recess (3 ') of the back (3) is filled with a material (15) preferably high pressure polyethylene, that material (15) being crossed by the rod itself ( 4) which extends backwards and is fixed at its rear end by means of a special press thread (16).
- the rod (4) instead of having the end (6) of rounded or capped outer surface, has a conical configuration (6 1 ) supporting through its base on the end that defines a plane corresponding to the anterior part (2) of the body (1) of the projectile.
- the tabs (10) of the container (9), instead of being provided with the nails (11) have rounded and internal projections (11 ') from which and to the free end of such tabs (10) sections of inclined surface (17) are determined that favor the exit of the projectile (1) with respect to the container (9), since those inclined planes (17) allow a better opening of the tabs (10) when the pressurized air intake.
- the body of the projectile (1) may lack the stretch marks (11), that is to say, have its outer surface smooth, which would allow its use in shotgun barrels and interchangeably in smooth barrel shotguns.
