Abstract

A precise, tunable, low loss add/drop filter (200, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800) for use in fiber optic communication systems utilizes a cascaded system of Mach Zenderlike stages (401, 501, 601, 701, 801), along with reflective elements (410, 418, 420, 512, 526, 603, 606, 702, 706, 803) to return passed channels to the output pass + add port (306) while transmitted signal(s) appear at the drop port (308). The optional add signal (304) follows the reverse path of the drop signal and is added to the pass signal.
