Abstract

A liquid crystal display is described which is suitable for use with a wide range of liquid crystal materials. A liquid crystal on silicon display includes a semiconductor device which is configured such that the charge associated with individual pixels is maintained, and hence liquid crystal materials (and other components of the display) with low charge-hold ratios (CHR) may be used. The semiconductor device comprises, for example, a static random access memory device (SRAM), for example, a six-transistor (6-T) SRAM.
