Description

Cleaning arrangement and method for cleaning the roll mantle of a paper/board or finishing/converting machine
The present invention relates to a cleaning arrangement for the roll mantle of a paper/board or finishing/converting machine, in conjunction with which roll is arranged a doctor blade apparatus, which comprises a beam part parallel with the longitudinal direction of the roll, and a doctor blade which can be brought into contact with the surface of the roll mantle for cleaning the surface by scraping.
The invention also relates to a method for cleaning the roll mantle of a paper/board or finishing/converting machine, in which method is used a doctor blade apparatus arranged in conjunction with the roll, which comprises a beam part parallel with the longitudinal direction of the roll, and a doctor blade which is brought into contact with the surface of the roll mantle for cleaning the surface by scraping.
The rolls of a paper/board or finishing/converting machine become soiled in use. Different kinds of sticky substances and pastes adhere especially to the calender rolls. This problem concerns both polymer-coated rolls and hard-surfaced rolls. Manual washing, doctor blade apparatuses and different types of water jet, air blowing, and brush devices which are able to move in the longitudinal direction of the roll have been used to clean the rolls.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved cleaning arrangement and method for cleaning the mantle part of a roll equipped with a doctor blade apparatus. To achieve this object, the cleaning arrangement relating to the invention is characterised in that the cleaning arrangement comprises a cleaning apparatus connected to the beam part, the apparatus comprising a cleaning means which can be brought into contact with both the surface portion of the roll to be cleaned and the doctor blade, the length of the said cleaning means in the longitudinal direction of the roll being substantially shorter than the length of the roll mantle, and which cleaning means is arranged to be moved in the longitudinal direction of the roll.
The method relating to the invention is, for its part, characterised in that in the method is in addition used a cleaning apparatus connected to the beam part, the apparatus comprising a cleaning means, the length of which is in the longitudinal direction of the roll substantially shorter than the length of the roll mantle, which cleaning means is brought into contact with both the surface portion of the roll mantle to be cleaned and the doctor blade, and moved in the longitudinal direction of the roll for cleaning them.
The invention is described in greater detail in the following, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a diagrammatic top view of a roll equipped with the cleaning apparatus relating to the invention,
Figure 2 shows a diagrammatic side view of a roll equipped with the cleaning apparatus relating to the invention, and
Figure 3 shows another embodiment of the cleaning apparatus as a diagrammatic side view.
In Figure 1 , the roll is marked with reference numeral 1 , and in conjunction with it is arranged a doctor blade apparatus 2 which comprises a beam part 3 extending in the longitudinal direction of the roll and, connected to the beam part, a doctor blade 4 extending in the longitudinal direction of the roll , which doctor blade can be pressed against the roll mantle. On the beam part 3 is arranged a guide rail 12 along which the cleaning apparatus 5 relating to the invention is arranged to move.
According to the embodiment shown in Figure 2, the said cleaning apparatus 5 comprises a frame part 13 to which is connected, via an articulated arm 10, an upper cleaning implement 6, which is equipped with a cleaning part 7 which can be pressed against the roll mantle, which cleaning part may be a brush-like or rough-surfaced textile or sponge-like means, and a lower cleaning implement 8 which has a cleaning part 9 which can be pressed against the doctor blade 4, which cleaning part may similarly be a brush-like or rough-surfaced textile or sponge-like means. The frame part 13 is arranged to travel in the longitudinal direction of the roll 1 along the guide rail 12 arranged on the upper surface of the doctor beam 3. By bringing the cleaning parts 7, 9 into contact with both the surface of the roll mantle and the doctor blade 4, for example, by means of a hydraulic cylinder 11 , which cylinder is arranged between the articulated arm 10 and the frame part 13, and by moving the frame part 13 along the guide rail 12 by means of actuators (not shown), the desired part of the roll mantle 1 a can be cleaned. By means of the hydraulic cylinder, the cleaning implements can be turned away from contact and the cleaning implement can then also be moved ready to the desired point, for example, to a certain point requiring intensified cleaning, and only after that be brought into contact with the surface 1 a of the roll mantle and the doctor blade 4. The cleaning arrangement relating to the invention can also be used in such a way that when the cleaning implement is in contact with the roll mantle and the doctor blade, the longitudinal movement of the cleaning implement 6-9 is stopped at a desired point on the roll mantle 1a and kept there for a desired time.
By means of the cleaning arrangement relating to the invention, in which the cleaning implement is brought into contact with both the roll mantle and the doctor blade, a locally higher load is effected on the doctor blade 4 by means of the cleaning part 9 coming against it, whereby the corresponding area in the roll mantle is cleaned without any significant increase in the total load directed at the doctor blade. Previously this type of local loading was effected manually, which was a dangerous procedure, especially when carried out with the machine is running. The cleaning arrangement relating to the invention is intended to be used during the normal operation of the machine. When using the cleaning arrangement relating to the invention, the tip of the doctor blade is also cleaned in addition to cleaning the roll mantle. In addition, liquid/steam or different chemicals can be supplied to the cleaning implement to increase the efficiency of cleaning. The dirt and steam removed during cleaning can be sucked away by means of a suction apparatus.
The length of the cleaning implement 6-9 in the axial direction of the roll is substantially shorter than the length of the roll 1 in the axial direction. The length of the cleaning implement may be, for example, about 5 cm to 100 cm or more, whereas the length of the roll is typically about 6 to 10 m. In the two-part embodiment of the cleaning implement shown in Figure 2, the length of the cleaning part 7 coming against the roll mantle 1a is preferably greater than the length of the cleaning part 9 coming against the doctor blade 4.
Figure 3 shows another embodiment of the cleaning apparatus, in which the cleaning implement has been formed into a belt 14 which travels from one reel 17 to another reel 16 via a supporting roll 15, which supporting roll 15 can be pressed against the surface of the roll mantle and the doctor blade. The speed of this type of belt is substantially slower than the speed of the roll. The speed of the belt may be, for example, of the order of a few centimetres per minute, whereas the speed of the roll is typically hundreds of metres per minute and may be as high as about 2000 m/min.
Instead of the belt-like cleaning implement shown in Figure 3 can also be used a rotating cleaning member, for example, a disc-type implement.
An advantage of using a belt-like or disc-type implement is that the dirt removed during cleaning can be moved more efficiently away from the area being cleaned, which means that the cleaning implement itself will remain cleaner. The dirt removed and the medium possibly used to facilitate cleaning, such as a liquid or steam and/or different chemicals, are preferably sucked away by means of a suction apparatus (not shown). It is also conceivable in connection with the invention to arrange a separate cleaning station on the side of the roll for washing the cleaning implement itself when necessary.
