Abstract

An exhaust hood filter system (100) configured for being positioned in vertical alignment with a food preparation system. The exhaust hood filter system (100) may be mounted on an interior surface of a building relative to a food preparation system or directly on a food vending cart configured for preparing, storing, and displaying foods and liquids such as donuts and coffee. The exhaust hood filter system (100) includes a three stage filtration module (30) and a blower (70) for the removal of particles and odors resulting from food preparation. A general support module includes lights (64) and an entertainment system (68). The exhaust hood filter system is adaptable for connection with an external power source or an internally positioned energy storage device.

SELF CONTAINED EXHAUST HOOD
FILTER SYSTEM

This application claims priority to Applicant's U.S. Provisional Application 60/207,486, filed May 26, 2000, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference.
BACKGROUND
1. Technical Field:
The present disclosure relates to a food vending cart having a filtration system and more particularly to a mobile food vending cart with an exhaust filter system for food preparation applications in interior building spaces.
2. : Background of Related Art: Mobile food vending carts are frequently configured to provide food preparation services external to structures. External food vending carts typically have storage facilities for selling previously prepared foods, a limited size to ensure their mobility on crowded streets, and a limited ability to provide additional freshly prepared food. The external food cart μ also often limited by its ability to attract people through more advanced forms of advertising and entertainment systems. There is a need for a mobile food vending cart configured for use internal to structures having a system for the fresh preparation of foods that can also include a system for removing cooking particles and odors from the air. The food vending cart would ideally be configured to be connectable to an external source of power and have a power system capable of supporting a variety of peripheral systems for advertising and entertainment. SUMMARY
A mobile food vending cart and self contained exhaust hood filter system for providing food preparation services internal to structures or buildings. The exhaust hood filter system includes a housing configured for being mounted in vertical alignment with a food preparation system. The exhaust hood filter system being adaptable for mounting to a wall for use with a permanent food preparation site as well as a mobile food vending cart. The exhaust hood filter system includes a blower module and a three stage filtration module for the removal of airborne particles and odors. A drainage system is provided for the collection of fluids from the filtration module. The housing also has a power control system and a general support module including a fire protection system, an entertainment system, and a lighting system for advertising as well as supporting food preparation and display. The food cart includes a frame for the positioning of a food preparation system including food preparation devices such as, but not limited to, donuts and coffee as well as food display and cold storage facilities. The food vending cart and self contained exhaust hood system is configured to be connected to an external source of power.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Referring now in specific detail to the drawings in which like referenced numerals identify similar or identical elements throughout the drawings and the attached general product , description, and initially to FIGS. 1-3, the presently disclosed food vending cart having a self contained exhaust hood filter system 100 is shown in one preferred configuration as a mobile four wheeled cart having a food preparation system. Cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 may also be mounted separately or together in proximity to a cooking surface or food preparation system in other suitable fashion, for example, on a wall, ceiling, floor, or directly on a food preparation apparatus. The food preparation apparatus as described herein performs tasks such as the cold or controlled storage, heating, cooking, and preparation of food.
The food vending cart food preparation system includes a variety of food preparation devices such as, but not limited to, donut. preparation devices utilizing two mixing machines, a fryer system that may have a conveyor assembly, a fryer flow filtration and siphon system, and donut cutters. The vending cart also includes a coffee preparation system having a coffee grinder , and a coffee brewer. Facilities are provided for dispensing napkins, lids, trays, small wares, and cups. A water container is provided as well as storage facilities with shelving units including accommodations for uniforms. The display case includes sneeze guards and a utility table and dressing are provided. A menu board may be positioned on a variety of external locations on the food vending cart and exhaust hood system.
Cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 includes modular subassemblies that are adaptable to a variety of configurations of food preparation devices that require a system for the filtering of air containing oils, odors, undesirable cooking related chemicals, or particles. The different modules of cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 include a housing 20, a filtration
module 30, a drainage system 40, a power module 50, an accessory or general support module
60, and a blower module 70.
Housing 20 can take any geometric shape, such as, for example the rectangular box-shape
! > I shown in FIGS. 1-3 and is approximately positioned in vertical alignment with wheeled food
preparation cart 10. In this configuration, housing 20 includes a first side 22, a second side 24
opposing first side 22, two opposing third sides 26, a fourth side 21, and a fifth side 23. Second
side 24 and third sides 26 may contain access doors for the operation or maintenance of the different modules within cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 as well as for storage. In one
preferred configuration, housing 20 is mounted by four columns 25 on a wheeled food preparation cart 10 containing food preparation apparatus.
Housing 20 may be formed from a suitable corrosion resistant metal, wood, or a synthetic plastic, a composite material, or combinations thereof that provide materials of suitable structural strength and resistance to fire and humidity conditions associated with food preparation. In addition, housing 20 may in the alternative be constructed to include a similarly suitable removable and replaceable facade with electrical connections to enhance the external appearance or for advertising.
Cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 includes a filter module 30 with at least three stages of filtration. The initial stage begins with pre-filter module 32 that is positioned near one of the sources of fumes or odors. Housing 20 forms an internal conduit in which air is drawn through pre-filter 32 and filter section 34 by a blower 72. Air is then forced under pressure by blower 72 through exhaust filter module 75 to exit cart and exhaust hood filter system 100. Pre-filter 32 is disposed at an included angle " " transverse to a vertical axis "X" to augment the collection of oils and other condensed chemicals and is preferably a metal filter that is configured to remove at least approximately 75% of the airborne grease particles being drawn into cart and exhaust hood filter system 100.
Filter section 34 may include, for example, a second pre-filter and baffle 35, at least one fiber filter 36, and at least one charcoal filter 37. The at least one fiber filter 36 may use, for example, a Tri-Dim ASHRAE 90-95% filter that also contains suitable odor and grease eliminating materials. The exhaust filter module 76 is positioned after blower 72 and is preferably a charcoal filter, but it can be a filter of any construction suitable to perform a final filtration function. The filters of cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 may be disposable filters, filters that are reusable upon cleaning, or combinations thereof. In addition, the individual particle filtration ranges of the different filters is adaptable to a variety of exhaust gas particles, odors, contaminants, and air flows. Cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 can also accommodate an electrostatic precipitator, or other similar electronic filtration systems. As a further addition, filter module 30 can be configured to include an air freshener device, a humidifier/dehumidifier, or an air conditioning system.
Drainage system 40 has at least two drip pans 42 positioned below the different filters for the collection of fluids. Drain pans are positioned under the remaining areas of filter section 34
and blower module 70 with sloped surfaces that feed into at least two drain ports 44. Depending upon the application, the drainage of oils into the drip pans, drain pans, and drain ports 44 can include a heat source positioned directly thereon or an area heating source positioned in the general vicinity to augment drainage.
Power module 50 includes a power supply (not shown) connected to a power control section (not shown). The power supply is a standard power supply suitable for supporting the ( electrical and electronic systems of cart and exhaust hood filter system 100. The power control
II section includes a control panel with devices such as an ammeter, a rheostat, at least one power
ON light emitting diode, and at least one circuit breaker. Additional sensors can include, for
example, an air flow at meter which measures air flow in cubic feet per minute "CFM" different stages and a temperature sensor. An external power source is preferably connected to
power module 50, but in the alternative an energy storage device positioned within housing 20 can provide an independent source of electricity for a predetermined period of time. General support module 60 includes subassemblies such as a fire protection device 62, a
lighting system having lighting apparatuses 64, and an entertainment system 68. Fire protection 62 devices can include fire sensing and suppressing equipment. Cart and exhaust hood filter system 100 may also include internal lighting (not shown) for housing 20 and external lights 64 .vertically mounted to bottom 21 that illuminate the working horizontal surface area of cart 10. Additional lights 64 may include those for external advertising signs such as a LED, LCD, or neon type electrified sign positioned on exhaust hood filter system 100. An entertainment system 66 may be included with selections from a variety of commercial visual display and stereo systems, but in a preferred configuration includes at least two speakers 67 and an entertainment unit 68. Entertainment unit 68 can include an amplifier, a microphone, a radio, and a standard commercial device for playing recorded audio. As an alternative configuration, cart and exhaust hood filter systems 100 can include video related entertainment equipment. The at least two speakers 67 are preferably mounted approximately flush with the exterior sides of housing 20 that project through holes of a predefined diameter. Speakers 67 can be any residential, commercial, or specialty waterproof grade speakers that are preferably mounted in housing 20 using receptacles of a predetermined dimension.
Blower assembly 70 includes blower 72 suitable for a given application up to 1000 CFM of air flow. In one of its preferred configurations, blower 72 is rated at 800 CFM and 5 inches of static pressure when driven by a 1/4 hp motor 74. Blower assembly 70 also includes a filter 76, that is preferably a charcoal filter, that exhausts the filtered air from cart and exhaust hood filter system 100. The location of filter 76 and exhaust port 78 is dependent upon the configuration of the cart and exhaust hood filter system 100. In its preferred configuration, system 100 exhausts vertically, but this can be reoriented to exhaust through any side of housing 20.
Although the illustrative embodiments of the present disclosure have been described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings, it is to be understood that the disclosure is not limited to those precise embodiments, and that various other changes and modifications may be affected therein by one skilled in the art without departing from the scope or spirit of the disclosure. All such changes and modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the present disclosure.

Claims

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. A self-contained exhaust hood filter system comprising: an exhaust hood filter system having a housing and being adapted for mounting in approximate vertical alignment with a food preparation system; a filtration module positioned in the housing, the filtration module including at least three stages of filtration and a blower module; a general support module positioned in the housing, the general support module including an entertainment system and a lighting system configured to support advertising signs positioned on an external surface of the housing; and a power module including a power supply connected to a power control section, the power supply being configured to connect to an external power source.
2. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 1, wherein the exhaust hood filter system includes a drainage system.
3. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 1, wherein the filtration module includes a first filter having a metal filter element configured for the removal of approximately 75% of the airborne grease particles drawn into the exhaust hood filter system.
4. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 1, wherein the housing is configured for being mounted directly to any interior structural surface of a building and a food preparation system.
5. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 1, wherein the entertainment system includes a video system.
6. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 1, wherein the housing includes an alternative energy storage device electrically connected to the power module.
7. A self-contained exhaust hood filter system adapted for being mounted with a food preparation system comprising: an exhaust hood filter system positioned in a housing and adapted for being mounted in approximate vertical alignment with a food preparation system; a filtration module positioned in the housing, the filtration module including at least three stages of filtration, a drainage system in juxtaposition with the filtration module positioned for collecting and draining fluids from the filtration module; a blower module positioned in the filtration module; a general support module positioned in the housing, the general support module including a fire protection system, an entertainment system including audio speakers and a lighting system; and a power module including a power supply connected to a power control section, the power supply being configured to be connectable to an external power source and an alternative energy storage source positioned in the housing.
8. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 7, wherein the power control section includes sensors positioned in the filtration system for measuring air flow and air temperature.
9. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 7, wherein the lighting system includes an advertising light sign positioned on an external surface of the housing.
10. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 7, wherein the filtration module includes a first filter having a metal filter element configured for the removal of approximately 75% of the airborne grease particles drawn into the exhaust hood filter system.
11. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 7, wherein the filtration module includes a second filter having a baffle, a fiber filter, and a charcoal filter.
12. The exhaust hood filter system of claim 7, wherein the filtration module includes an
exhaust filter including charcoal elements.
13. A mobile food vending cart comprising:
a frame;
an exhaust hood filter system adapted for mounting on the frame, the exhaust
hood filter system including a housing being configured for mounting in approximate vertical
alignment with a food preparation system of the vending cart;
I a filtration module positioned in the housing, the filtration module including at
least three stages of filtration, a first filter having a metal filter element disposed at an angle
transverse to a vertical axis, a second filter having a fiber filter configured for eliminating odors
and grease, and a blower in juxtaposition with an exhaust filter;
a drainage system positioned in a lower portion of the housing, the drainage
system configured and dimensioned for the collection of fluids from the filtration module;
a general support module positioned in the housing, the general support module
including a plurality of support systems, the support systems including a fire protection system, an entertainment system, and a lighting system configured to support advertising signs
positioned on an external surface of the housing;
a power module positioned in the housing and including a power supply and a power control section, the power supply being configured for being connected to an external
power source of power and an alternative energy storage device positioned in the housing, the
power module configured to provide a suitable source of energy for the exhaust hood filter system, the power control section being connected to the power supply and configured for the operational control of at least the general support module and the blower; and a food preparation system positioned in a lower portion of the frame including donut preparation devices and a coffee preparation system positioned on the vending cart, the donut preparation devices including two mixing machines, a fryer system, a fryer filtration and siphon system, and donut cutters, the coffee preparation system including a coffee grinder and a coffee brewer, the vending cart further including a water container and display case. ,
14. The mobile.food vending cart of claim 13, wherein the power control section includes circuit breakers, switches, and indicators for sensors positioned in the exhaust hood filter system.
15. The mobile food vending cart of claim 13, wherein the metal filter element of the first filter is adapted for the removal of approximately 75% of the airborne grease particles drawn into the exhaust hood filter system.
16. The mobile food vending cart of claim 13, wherein the second filter includes a baffle and a charcoal filter.
17. The mobile food vending cart of claim 13, wherein the filtration module includes an exhaust filter having charcoal elements.
18. The mobile food vending cart of claim 13, wherein the filtration module includes an electrostatic precipitator.
19. The mobile food vending cart of claim 13, wherein the drainage system includes at least two drip pans positioned for the collection of fluids from the filtration module and the blower.
