Abstract

The invention relates to a method for controlling a one-dimensional cursor by evaluating the force exerted onto a key. The aim of the invention is to develop a method for positioning a one-dimensional cursor on an axis and for activating functions using a keyboard. To these ends, the invention provides that the exerted pressure force is detected from a variable allotted pressure force, which is applied to a key in succession, and is then measured. The respective pressure value is determined using a table or by calculating a cursor position, whereupon the key operator alters this applied key pressure value if necessary, whereby once the desired pressure value is attained, an item of information regarding a selected function alternative or regarding a set value is fed to the further processing once operation of the key is completed. According to the inventive method for controlling a cursor using a key, the pressing force thereof is measured and is evaluated using a FIFO buffer. The position of the cursor is directly dependent on the amount of force exerted and can be varied as desired.
