Description

ADJUSTABLE DEVICE FOR CLIMBING WOODEN, CONCRETE, POLYESTER OR METAL POSTS
The invention involves the adjustable device for climbing wooden, concrete, polyester or metal posts, such as useful and suitable for climbing and safe work on posts of different diameters, and/or the device is easily adjustable to the changing diameter and/or to the tapered form of the post, without any risk for the climber to skid. The invention belongs to class A63B 27/00 of the International Patent Classification. The technical problem successfully solved by the device referred to in this invention involves the design and the construction of such climbing mechanism that will allow for simple adjustment of the climbing device to different post diameters without requiring from the climber to descend or to take any additional efforts. The wooden and the concrete, the polyester or the metal posts, used as carrier posts for overhead power lines, telephone lines, street illumination etc. are provided on top with insulators that are penetrated by wires. In addition there may be distribution boxes, transformers etc. mounted on the top of such posts. All these parts are subject to defects that are due to different technical reasons, atmospheric discharges etc. Accordingly, it is sometimes necessary to climb such post in order to do certain repairs. The problem arising at climbing such posts primarily lies in the fact that different posts are of different diameters and, moreover, they are usually tapered, which involves a big difference between the diameter in the lower part and that on the top. When climbing such post the climber has not much possibility of adjustment the climbing device to the diameter of the post which he is climbing.
Accordingly, the technical problem not successfully solved by the existing solutions of climbing mechanisms, requires the construction of such climbing device for climbing wooden and concrete, polyester or metal posts that will be useful for climbing the posts of different diameters and that will, moreover, allow for simple adjustment to different post diameters even during the climbing; the device will be suitable for climbing wooden as well as concrete, polyester or metal posts.
The existing solutions of the post climbing systems were more or less unsuccessful attempts to produce the devices that did not secure safe climbing and did not allow for any intervention on the top of the post. One of such solutions is also described in the patent document WO 97/43016 which, however, does not provide any successful solution of the imposed technical problem. The solution described in the patent document WO 94/19063 and designed for climbing the posts with a special profiled groove does not successfully solve the imposed technical problem either. Another aid for climbing the posts is described in the document WO 95/15790. This solution envisages the introduction of special screw-type attachments into the post and thereafter at climbing the introduction of special attachments into the respective screw-type attachment. This solution does not provide any satisfactory effect; besides, the screw-type attachments shall be introduced into the post before its erection, which, however, involves additional costs.
In addition to the above devices, there are also available climbing elements to be fixed on each leg. They consist of a tightly connected clamping arm and a foot clip. The climber fixes his foot clips on his feet and climbs the post by moving one leg and another, whereby he also moves both clamping arms up the post. Such climbing elements are suitable for climbing the posts of certain diameters only, depending on the distance between the clamping arm and the foot clip. Therefore the climbing of posts of different diameters requires the climbing elements with clamping arms of different sizes and/or the climber is not so stable and safe at the upper thinner part of the post.
The adjustable device for climbing wooden, concrete, polyester or metal posts, such as referred to in this invention, consists of the clamping arm with the foot clip, adjustable via the control mechanism, as well as of the adjustable shift console, connected via the mechanism with the pull handle in the way that the clamping of the post with the clamping arm and with the shift console always takes place in three points, irrespective of the diameter of the post. The invention will be explained in detail on the basis of the concrete example and with reference to the corresponding figures, whereof
Figure 1a shows schematically the adjustable device for climbing wooden posts, as top view, adjusted for climbing posts of large diameters;
Figure 1b shows schematically the adjustable device for climbing wooden posts, as top view, adjusted for climbing posts of small diameters;
Figure 2a shows schematically the adjustable device for climbing concrete, polyester or metal posts, as top view, adjusted for climbing posts of large diameters;
Figure 2b shows schematically the adjustable device for climbing concrete, polyester or metal posts, as top view, adjusted for climbing posts of large diameters. The adjustable device referred to in this invention, such as shown in Figures 1 and 2, is useful for climbing wooden, concrete, polyester or metal posts. The basic design characteristics of the device referred to in this invention are identical; the only difference lies in the fact that the device designed for climbing wooden posts is provided with clamping teeth 2', 9' and 10' on the clamping arm and on the adjustable shift console, while the device designed for climbing concrete, polyester or metal posts are provided with rubber linings 2, 9 and 10. Our description of the device referred to in this invention refers to the device with rubber linings, designed for climbing concrete, polyester or metal posts, which equally applies to the device for climbing wooden posts.
The adjustable device for climbing wooden, concrete, polyester or metal posts, such as referred to in this invention, consists of the clamping arm 1 fitted with a rubber lining 2, whereby the clamping arm 1 is adjustably fixed, 4 with the control mechanism 3, to the foot clip 4, provided with a rubber stirrup 5 with a tightening strap and a buckle. From the foot clip 4 there originates, by means of the mechanism 6 and the pull handle 7, an adjustable shift console 8, provided at its ends with two rubber linings 9, 10. In the version of the device for climbing wooden posts, the rubber linings 2, 9, 10 are replaced by clamping teeth 2', 9', 10'. At the adjustment of the device referred to in this invention, the correct distance of the clamping arm 1 is set by means of the control mechanism 3 and the position of the adjustable console 8 is set by means of the mechanism 6 with the pull handle 7 in the way that the device fits snugly, by means of the linings 2, 9 and 10, to the post that is to be climbed. While climbing the post of variable diameter the shift console 8 may be adjusted to the post by simply pulling the pull handle 7 via the mechanism 6 in the way to always obtain, in three points, an optimum grip of the device referred to in this invention to the post.
The foot clip 4, provided with a rubber stirrup 5 with a tightening strap and a buckle, is shaped in the way to fit to the full size of the shoe. The rubber stirrup 5 holds the tightening strap in such position to allow for quick and easy mounting of the device to the foot. The device referred to in this invention can be fixed to the foot by simply pulling the tightening strap through the sliding buckle. The same procedure shall be applied for removal of the device from the foot.
The main characteristic of the above described adjustable device for climbing wooden, concrete, polyester or metal posts, such as referred to in this invention, lies in its simple adaptability to different post diameters through setting of the clamping arm 1 position by means of the control mechanism 3, and/or in its easy control of the shift console 8 position by means of the mechanism 6 with the pull handle during the climbing itself. In this way the device referred to in this invention can replace several sizes of standard climbing devices and on climbing the tapered post the device is constantly in contact with the post, i.e. in three points, through the rubber linings 2, 9, 10 or through the teeth 2', 9", 10'. The body of the device and the clamping arm 1 are made from hollow profiles and not from solid materials, as it used to be the case in the climbing devices known hitherto.
