Abstract

The device according to the present invention for the extension of the pedals, particularly for racing bicycles, and that will determine an increase of the power applied to the pedals and consequently an increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels, for increasing the efficiency of the push of the pedal, comprises two pedal cranks (1) provided with grooved guides (2) for the passage of blocking pins (3) inserted in passing through holes (5) on the pedals (4), which thus are made sliding, and with bearings (6) for receiving said pins mounted onto a support (7) that is crossed in eccentric way by the shaft (A) to which said pedal cranks are connected, so that the eccentric feature of the rotation centres of said pedal cranks around the axis, and of the pins inside said bearings, determines, in the pushing phase, an extension of said pedals that may assure an increase of the power applied to the pedals and a consequent increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels.

Description

"A DEVICE FOR THE EXTENSION OF THE PEDALS OF A BICYCLE DURING THE PUSHING PHASE"
The present invention concerns a device for the extension of the pedals, particularly for racing bicycles, and that will determine an increase of the power applied to the pedals and consequently an increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels, for increasing the efficiency of the push of the pedal.
The invention arose from the need to automatically vary only in the active phase of the push of the pedal the moment of the applied force.
The aimset forth is reached by meas of the device according to the present invention, comprising two pedal cranks provided with grooved guides for the passage of blocking pins inserted in passing through holes on the pedals, which thus are made sliding, and with bearings for receiving said pins mounted onto a support that is crossed in eccentric way by the shaft to which said pedal cranks are connected, so that the eccentric feature of the rotation centres of said pedal cranks around the axis, and of the pins inside said bearings, determines, in the pushing phase, an extension of said pedals that may assure an increase of the power applied to the pedals and a consequent increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels. The device according to the present invention will be described hereinbelow relating to the enclosed drawings in which an embodiment is shown.
Figure 1 shows a lateral view of a device for extending the pedals, applied to a racing bicycle.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 show a scheme of the different extension and reduction positions of the pedals during rotation.
The enclosed figures show a device for the extension of the pedals during the pushing phase, according to the present invention, comprising:
- pedal cranks 1, linked to a crown C and having their fulcrum with said crown in a shaft A, provided with grooved guides 2 for the passage of blocking pins 3;
- pedals 4 carrying pedals P, made sliging along said grooved guides 2 of said pedal cranks 1 by said blocking pins 3 inserted in passing through holes 5 on said pedals P;
- bearings 6 for receiving said blocking pins 3 mounted on a special support 7 crossed in eccentric manner by said shaft A, to which said pedal cranks 1 are connected.
The functioning of the device according to the present invention may be explained as follows:
- the rotation of said pedal crank 1 around said shaft A determines a linear sliding of said blocking pin 3 in said grooved guide 2 of said pedal crank 1, following to the contemporary rotating movement of the same inside said bearing 6 to which it is restrained;
- the movement of said pin 3, connected to said pedals 4 through said passing through holes 5, allows the sliding of sad pedal 4 on said pedal crank 1;
- the ecentric feature of the rotation centres of said pedal crank 1 around said axis A, and of said pin 3 inside said bearing 6, determines - during the pushing phase - an extesion of said pedals 4 which assures an increase of the power applied to said pedals P and a consequent increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels.
On the contrary, in the resting phase the pedal crank 1 undergoes a reduction of its length.

Claims

1. A device for the extensio of pedals, in particular for racing bicycles, that determines an increase of the power applied to the pedals ad a consequent increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels, for increasing the efficiency of the push of the pedal, characterized in:
- pedal cranks (1), linked to a crown (C) and having their fulcrum with said crown in a shaft (A), provided with grooved guides (2) for the passage of blocking pins (3); - pedals (4) carrying pedals (P), made sliging along said grooved guides (2) of said pedal cranks (1) by said blocking pins (3) inserted in passing through holes (5) on said pedals (P);
- bearings (6) for receiving said blocking pins (3) mounted on a special support (7) crossed in eccentric manner by said shaft (A), to which said pedal cranks (1) are connected.

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the rotation of said pedal crank (1) around said shaft (A) determines a linear sliding of said blocking pin (3) inside said grooved guide (2) of said pedal crank (1) following to the contemporary rotating movement of the same inside said bearing (6) to which it is restrained.

A device according to claim 1, characterized in that the movement of said pin (3), connected to said pedals (4) through said passing through holes (5), allows the sliding of the same onto said pedal crank (1). device according to claim 1, characterized in that the eccentric feature of the rotation centres of said pedal crank (1) around said axis (A), and of said pin (3) inside said bearing (6), determines - during the pishing phase an extension of said pedals (4) that assure an increase of the power applied onto said pedals (P), and a consequent increase of the moment transmitted to the wheels.
