Durch den Wärmespeicher wird eine Entkoppelung der Wärmeerzeugung vom Wärmeverbrauch erreicht, so daß der Mikrowellenerzeuger unabhängig vom aktuellen Wärmeverbrauch in einem kostengünstigen, kontinuierlichen Dauerlastbetrieb gefahren werden kann und dadurch beispielsweise Kostenvorteile wie Nachtstrom genutzt werden können.
