Abstract

Drinks containing carbon dioxide have hitherto only been distributed in bottles or metal cans. It is desirable to be able to distribute these drinks in a material that is easier to handle. This material maybe of laminated paper and the process is made possible by adding oxygen to the drink.

Description

SEALED PACK FOR LIQUIDS
The present invention relates to packs for liquids, particularly aerated and sparkling liquids. Such liquids have hitherto been packed in glass containers or metal cans. Attempts have also been made to pack aerated liquids in packs of laminated paper. However, this has been less successful because the carbon dioxide expands and is also capable of destroying the glued joins.
The present invention is intended to enable the supply of oxygen- enriched and sparkling drinks in paper containers, without their being destroyed. This is enabled by the liquid inside a sealed paper container containing no carbon dioxide but instead containing pure oxygen gas which has been added to the liquid prior to its being filled into the container. The amount of oxygen is chosen in such a way that when a pack filled with oxygen-containing liquid is opened it will behave in the same way as an aerated or sparkling drink, bubbles being formed. Sufficient oxygen gas shall thus be added to the liquid to cause the formation of bubbles. A minimum amount of oxygen or a maximum amount of oxygen may be added. It has been found that a minimum addition of oxygen constitutes approximately 45 ml per litre of liquid and a maximum addition of oxygen may be up to 500 ml or more per litre of liquid. The most important thing is for the percentage of oxygen gas inside the pack to be higher than the percentage of oxygen gas outside the pack.
When filling a container the supply channels and sealing of the pack must be performed in such a way that oxygen gas is unable to leave the liquid. Further characteristics of the present invention are revealed in the appended claims.
A pack for liquid according to the invention may have various shapes and be designed for various volumes. Two pages of description in English and two drawings are enclosed, describing a plant for filling a pack without oxygen gas leaving the liquid during the process of filling and sealing the pack.

Claims

1. A sealed pack for liquids such as soft drinks, medicinal liquids possibly containing the co-enzyme Q10 to which vitamin E, for example, and other suitable medicinal additives have been added, wherein the material used for the pack consists of a laminate, one layer consisting of paper pulp, preferably unbleached pulp, and a second layer preventing the passage of oxygen, characterized in that the liquid in the pack contains oxygen to such an extent that when liquid leaves the pack upon opening, it contains bubbles similar to a liquid containing carbon dioxide, or a sparkling drink.
2. A sealed pack as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the liquid contains at least 45 ml oxygen per litre of liquid.
3. A sealed pack as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the liquid contains 500 ml oxygen or more per litre of liquid.
4. A sealed pack as claimed in claim 1, characterized in t h a t the concentration of oxygen is higher in the liquid inside the pack than in the surrounding air.
5. A sealed pack as claimed in claim 1, ch a racteri zed in that the layer that prevents passage of oxygen constitutes an oxygen- tight layer.
6. A sealed pack as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the layer that prevents passage of oxygen consists of aluminium.
7. A sealed pack as claimed in one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the supply of oxygenated liquid to the pack and the sealing thereof takes place in a closed system that prevents oxygen from leaving the liquid being filled into the pack.
