  • FIG 1 shows an embodiment of a system 10 according to the invention, which uses, a radio frequency transmitter 12 for distributing information to user bases 14, from one or more content providers 16, which could be an Internet service provider, university or commercial institution such as a firm of stock brokers, magazine company, news network or software developer. Users subscribe or register themselves with a content provider 16 at a fee. The content providers prepare the information to distributed to their subscribers and forward it to a service provider 18 that manages and classifies the data to be tr.ansmitted.
  • Existing transmission infrastructure 12, such as that used by radio companies, is used to broadcast the channels of information.
  • a PC- based receiving station comprising an antenna 20, a specialised receiver card in the form of a radio card (not shown) and processing and storage means (not chown), is used to receive, demodulate, process and store the incoming information signal. Downloads are stored and automatically refreshed with up-to-date information. This information is retrieved by the user, and manipulated with appropriate software, such as conventional Internet browsers, customized software packages or applets.

Abstract

La présente invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant, d'une part d'émettre de l'information à destination de plusieurs utilisateurs simultanément, avec utilisation d'un réseau de radiocommunications, et d'autre part de recevoir, de démoduler, de télécharger et de stocker de l'information au niveau des bases utilisateurs, pour y accéder ultérieurement. Le système comporte au moins un fournisseur de contenu (16) tel qu'une entreprise de presse, une entreprise de courtage boursier, un fournisseur de service Internet, un éditeur ou une université. Le système comporte également au moins un fournisseur de services (18) qui gère l'information pénétrant par les canaux. Le système comporte en outre une infrastructure existante d'émetteurs radio (12) telle que celle qu'utilisent les diffuseurs de radio. Le système comporte enfin une pluralité de récepteurs (14) construits autour d'ordinateurs individuels au niveau des bases utilisateur. De telles bases utilisateur comportent normalement une antenne (20) associé à une carte radio spécialisée conçue pour la mise en oeuvre de techniques de modulation (notamment GMSK, QPM et Modulation Galaxy). La base comporte en outre un modem assurant la démodulation du signal diffusé. La base comporte enfin des organes de traitement tels qu'un ordinateur individuel.
