Description

Description Box Package for Consumer Items and Blank for its Realisation
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a box package for items preferably in the form of consumer items in pieces, such as cigarettes, candies, sweets, bullion cubes and the like. For packaging cigarettes and the like, a large quantity of box packages is known in the art, each substantially comprising a hollow container element, defining a housing for said items, presenting a front wall, a rear wall, separated at their lower end by a bottom wall and laterally by opposite side walls, and comprising at least one top opening to allow reaching the items contained in the container element, which is closed again by a top closure lid connected in a hinged fashion to said rear wall of the container element to open, respectively, close said access opening.
Background Art
In prior art packages the container element and the lid are realised starting from a single flat blank made of cardboard with the addition of a collar in the form of a distinct rigid element, also made of cardboard, which is positioned in correspondence with the access opening inside the box extending at the top beyond the border of the container element that contours said opening.
On this separate collar of the package are provided means for engaging by friction said closure lid, which act to maintain it in the position wherein it closes the container element .
The presence of this rigid collar for the means to retain the package lid closed is definitely disadvantageous since it requires the use, for each package, of excess material (the collar itself) and of the related means for bonding it to the rest of the box. The machines for the assembly of such packages, due to the fact that it feeds and suitably fastens this rigid collar to the box, are therefore excessively complex. All this has a negative influence on the manufacturing cost of the individual box.
Disclosure of Invention
The present invention relates to a box package according to claim 1. In particular said claim 1 refers to a box package for items, preferably consumer products, comprising a hollow container element defining a housing for said items presenting a front wall, a rear wall separated at their lower end by a bottom wall and laterally by opposite side walls and at least one top opening to allow reaching the items contained in the container element contoured by a top border of the container element, and a closure lid of said top opening connected to said rear wall of the container element and movable, by rotation, with respect to said container element to open, respectively, close said access opening wherein said container element and said lid are realised starting from a single blank and wherein means for engaging said closure lid are provided to maintain it m the closure position of the container element; characterised m that said means for engaging said closure lid are provided on a first and second portions projecting at the top beyond said border contouring the access opening m such a way as to allow the engagement of said closure lid and the maintenance of the same lid m the position wherein it closes the access opening; m that in said container element each of said opposite side walls comprises a respective outer panel extending from the front wall and a corresponding inner panel extending from the wall; and in that said first and second projecting portions for said means for maintaining the closure are realised from said blank of the package each on the extension of a respective one of said inner panels of the side walls.
Setting the means for engaging and maintaining closed the lid on projecting portions obtained from the same blank for the realisation of the package, it is possible to avoid the use of the additional rigid collar, with savings m terms of manufacturing costs and time and allowing to obtain machines for the realisation of such packages of simpler construction and lower cost. With respect to traditional packaging machines, it is possible to eliminate the presence of a special line for feeding and fastening said rigid collar.
The invention also relates to a blank, preferably a flat blank, for the obtainment of the present package according to claim 21.
The secondary claims refer to advantageous embodiments of the present invention.
Additional technical features and advantages of the invention are readily apparent from the content of the detailed description that follows, made with reference to the accompanying drawings, which represent embodiments provided purely by way of non limiting examples:

- Figure 8 shows a perspective view in the open condition of the box package according to a second preferred embodiment of the invention. Figures 1 and 2 illustrate a first preferred embodiment 10 of the present box package shown respectively in a closed condition (Figure 1) and in an open condition (Figure 2). The box package 10 comprises a hollow container element 12 defining a housing 14 for said items and a movable closure lid 13. Said hollow container element 12 comprises a front wall 16 and a rear wall 18 separated at their lower end by a bottom wall 20 and laterally by opposite side walls 22, 24 and it presents a top opening 26 suitable to allow reaching the items contained in the container element 12. The top opening 26 is defined by a top border 28 of the container element that contours said opening 26.
As the figures show, said lid 13 for closing said top opening 26 is connected to said rear wall 18 of the container element 12 along a pre-constituted horizontal hinging line 30 and it is movable, by rotation, with respect to said container element 12 to open, respectively, close said access opening 26.
The lid 13 comprises a top head wall 32 positioned transversely, side walls 34 and 36, a front wall 38 and a rear or back wall 40, which, in the package closure position, are positioned substantially on the same plane as the corresponding walls of the container element 12 thereby allowing to realise a box package of prismatic shape.
As shall be made more readily apparent below, the present package is realised starting from a single blank, preferably flat and made of cardboard. Therein, as it is evident also with reference to the subsequent figures 3 and 6, the container element 12 comprises each of said side walls 22, 24 which is composed of a respective inner panel 221, 241 extending from the rear wall 18 and of a respective outer panel 222, 242 extending from the front wall 16. A first 42 and a second 44 portions are advantageously provided, projecting at the top beyond said border 28 contouring the access opening 26 in such a way as to allow the engagement with friction of said closure lid 13 and the maintenance of the same lid 13 in the position wherein it closes the access opening 26, all thanks to suitable engagement surfaces realised in the present case by the front edges 46, 48 of the projecting portions engaging with friction against the corresponding inner edges 50, 52 between the front wall 38 and the side walls 34 and 36 of the lid.
According to an advantageous characteristic of the present realisation, said first 42 and second 44 portions projecting at the top for the means for maintaining closed the lid 13 of the package are realised, as shall be made more readily apparent below, starting directly from the package blank, each being positioned on the extension of a respective one of said inner panels 221, 241 of the side walls 22, 24.
According to the present first preferred embodiment of the invention, each of said portions projecting at the top is realised from the upper part 221', 241' of the respective inner panels 221, 241 of the side walls 22, 24 and from the upper part 54', 56' of front tabs 54, 56 each integral with a respective one of said inner panels 221, 241 of the side walls 22, 24. This solution for the portions projecting at the top is certainly the preferred one since it confers a certain structural rigidity thereto and hence it favours the realisation of an engagement with friction of the front edges 46, 48 with the opposite inner edges 50, 52 of the lid 13 to maintain it closed and it further allows to obtain a good guide for the opening and closing motion of the lid itself.
It must be, however, understood that, for the present invention, one could also imagine realising such portions for guiding and supporting the means for holding the lid closed as comprising only the upper parts 54' and 56' of the front tabs or the parts 221' and 241' of the side panels.
Said front tabs 42 and 44 which, in the assembled condition of the box are provided in correspondence with the front wall 16 inside the container element 12 also realise, bearing against the inner face of the front wall 16, means for stiffening it. In the box package are also present means for stopping the rotation of the lid 13 in said closure condition of the container element 12. Said means for stopping the rotation of the lid 13 comprise, on said container element 12, at least one part of the upper border of said portions projecting at the top whereon said lid 13 comes in contact during the closing rotation.
As is readily apparent also with reference to the subsequent figures 4 and 5, according to the present preferred realisation, said means for arresting the rotation of the lid 13 comprise, on said container element 12, the top border 221", 241" of the upper parts 221', 241' of the respective inner panels 221, 241 of the side walls 22, 24 and, on said lid 13, opposite lower borders 341", 361" provided on said inner panels 341, 361 of said lid 13. As shown, said upper borders 221", 241" and the opposite lower arresting borders 341", 361" are inclined upwards with respect to a hypothetical horizontal line.
Said inner panels 341, 361 of said lid 13 are made shorter than the lateral walls of the lid 13. The lower border 342", 362" of said outer panels 342, 362 of the lid defines with the lower border of the front wall 38 of the lid 13 the lower border of said lid 13 which is adapted m the closed condition of the package on said border 28 of the container element 12 to realise the closure of the package. As shown, the upper parts 54', 56' of the front tabs 54, 56 present respective mutually opposite inner borders 60, 62 which are distanced and diverging towards the top of the package to realise a frontal passage 58 for accessing the interior of the container element 12. Below said front wall 38 of the lid 13 further extends a front cover prolongation of said passage 58 for insertion inside the package, which is in the form of a tab 64 able to be inserted, in the closed position of the lid 13, with friction between the two front tabs 54, 56 and the inner surface of said front wall 16 to allow a greater hold of the lid in the closed condition.
Said tab 64 extends for the entire width of the front wall 38 of the lid 13 and presents side edges 66, 68 tapering downwards .
As shown in Figure 7, the box package of the present invention can be obtained in a preferred manner starting from a flat blank B preferably made of cardboard which extends along a longitudinal axis L of prevailing development and presents pre-constituted crease or fold lines (indicated in dashed lines) and cut lines (indicated in continuous lines) . The blank B comprises a central panel 18 realising the rear wall of the container element 12, a longitudinally extreme panel 16 realising said front wall of the container element 12, between which is positioned an intermediate panel 20 realising the bottom wall of the container element 12 separated, from said central 18 and extreme 16 panels, by means of respective transverse crease lines 70, 72.
A crease line 30 of the blank realises the hinging line of said lid 13 to the panel 18.
The blank B also comprises respective side panels 221, 241, at the opposite longitudinal sides of said central panel 18, able to realise the inner panels of the side walls of the container element 12, which are separated from the central panel 18 by means of respective longitudinal crease lines 80, 82 and are transversely delimited by respective transverse bottom borders, realised by means of transverse cut lines 128, 130, and opposite transverse head borders realised by means of inclined cut lines 92, 94 respectively.
The blank B further comprises respective side panels 222, 242, at the opposite longitudinal sides of said extreme panel 16, able to realise the outer panels of the side walls of the container element 12, which are separated from the extreme panel 16 by means of respective crease lines 84, 86 and delimited transversely by respective transverse bottom borders realised by means of transverse cut lines 116, 118 and opposite transverse inclined head borders 88, 90 respectively.
In the blank, the distance between said opposite transverse borders 92, 128 and 94, 130 of each of the lateral panels 221, 241 realising the inner side panels of the container element is greater than that between the opposite transverse borders 88, 116 and 90, 118 of each of the lateral panels 222, 242 realising the outer side panels of the container element in such a way as to realise, m the assembled condition of the container element, portions 221' , 241' projecting beyond the upper border of said side panels 222, 242 and of said front wall 16 of the container element 16.
In particular, m the present preferred blank B, m order to realise said portions projecting at the top of the package, the inclined head borders 92, 94 of said lateral panels 221, 241 realising the inner side panels of the container element present an inclination that is opposite to that of the extreme borders 88, 90 of the lateral panels 222, 242 defining the outer panels of the side walls and m any case is such that the length of the respective outer borders 122, 124 of the lateral panels 221, 241 realising the inner side panels of the container element is greater than the length of the corresponding crease lines 84, 86 which separate the lateral panels 222, 242 from the extreme panel 16. Starting from the summits of the outer borders 122, 124 of the panels 221, 241 of the central panel 18, extending for a certain longitudinal section of its length, respective crease lines 96, 98 are further provided, which separate the respective lateral panels 221, 241 of the central panel 18 from extreme lateral panels 54, 56 realising said front tabs of the container element 12 so that these extreme tabs 54, 56 present an outer part 54' , 56' that serves to realise said top prolongation portions of said package.
Figure 7 also clearly shows that, in the blank, the crease line 30 that realises the hinge line to panel 18 separates the latter from a panel 40 realising the rear or back wall of the lid 13, said panel 40 is separated by means of a transverse crease line 74 from a panel 32 realising the head wall of the lid 13, which is in turn separated by means of a transverse crease line 76 from a panel 38 realising the front wall of the lid 13; a crease line 78 separates said panel 38 from a laterally tapered panel 64 realising said protection tab on the lid 13.
In the flat blank, said cut lines 92, 94 separate said lateral panels 221, 241 of the central panel 18 from panels 341, 361 separated by means of longitudinal crease lines 96, 98 from the panel 40 of the back wall of lid 13 realising the inner panels of the side walls of the lid 13.
The panels 342, 362 able to define the outer panels of said side walls of the lid 13 are defined by means of longitudinal crease lines 100, 102 which separate them from the panel 38 realising the front wall of the lid 13 and from respective transverse cut lines 104, 106.
In the blank, the extreme panels 381, 382 lateral to the head panel 32 are obtained by means of transverse crease lines 112, 114 and said transverse cut lines 104, 106 and further longitudinal cut lines 108, 110 separating said panels 381, 382 from the panels 341, 361 defining the inner panels of the lid and from the panels 342, 362 defining the outer panels of the lid. At the sides of the bottom panel 20 are realised respective outer panels 201, 202 by means of respective transverse cut lines 116, 118 for separation from the side panels 222, 242 of the panel 16, longitudinal cut lines 120, 126 for separation from the bottom panel 20 and transverse crease lines 128, 130 for separation from the side panels 221, 241. For the assembly of the package, a series of folds of the panels of the blanks is to be executed m succession, preferably with the products to be packaged already positioned inside the package. For the assembly, therefore, according to a preferred but not limiting procedure, a first phase is provided wherein the side panels 221, 241, and 341, 361 are folded longitudinally, according to the respective longitudinal crease lines, whereupon, in a second phase, the panels 201, 202 and 381, 382, as well as 54, 56, are folded transversely, according to the respective creasing or fold lines .
Subsequently, m a third phase, the panel 20 and the panel 32 are folded transversely and following the third phase, in the course of a fourth phase, the panel 38 is folded transversely. The further fifth phase of the assembly entails folding transversely the panel 16 and lastly, in a sixth phase, longitudinally the panels 222, 242 and the panels 342, 362 according to the respective crease lines.
The glue points, which allow to maintain assembled the container in use, are applied in the dashed longitudinal areas Cl, C2 of the panels 222, 242 and m the dashed areas C3 and C4 of the panels 342, 362. With the present box container, a certain saving m the quantity of glue employed is also obtained. With the present box package it is therefore possible to proceed with an assembly with a low number of operations and hence of work stations or positions of the assembling machine attaining considerable simplification and thereby space and cost savings . Moreover the quantity of material employed to obtain the present package is minimal, or, otherwise stated, the flat blank B wherefrom the present package is entirely obtained presents m plan view a minimal superficial extension.
As shown in Figure 8, related to a second preferred embodiment of the invention, said means to maintain the lid closed could possibly also comprise, m correspondence with said edges 46 and 48 of the portions projecting at the top, the tabs 46", 48" for engagement with friction which are slightly projecting transversely towards the outside. Apart from what is referred above, this second preferred embodiment is wholly similar to the first preferred embodiment and therefore it is not described in detail. In Figure 8 the elements that are wholly similar to those of the first preferred embodiment have been indicated with the same numeric references. Moreover in accordance to an additional preferred embodiment of the invention one could also imagine omitting said front insertion tab 64.
The invention thus conceived may be subject to numerous modifications and variations, without thereby departing from the scope of the inventive concept. Moreover, all components can be replaced with technically equivalent elements.
