- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems are already known intended, in internal combustion engines, to recycle part of the exhaust gases at the intake into the cylinders.

- Such recycling of generally inert gases and therefore not participating in combustion makes it possible to lower the combustion temperature, which has the effect of reducing the rate of nitrogen oxides (NOx) present in the exhaust gases and , therefore, to limit the pollution caused by such an engine.

- recirculation must occur only under normal engine operating conditions and, therefore, be interrupted in all non-nominal circumstances, namely, essentially cold , under heavy load, at idle and at high speed. In these latter cases, no recirculation is permitted while, in normal operation, recirculation of up to 50% by weight of the admitted gases is permitted. Regulation is therefore necessary.

- the transverse shaft 12 causes an axial displacement of the valve head 3 and therefore an adjustment of the flow rate of the valve.
- the grooves 11 may not be helical in the strict mathematical sense of the term, so that the valve lift is not necessarily proportional to the angle of rotation of the engine, but can be adjusted at will by an appropriate conformation of the grooves.
